Introduction
For organizational sustainability, the culture of excellence is a significant factor in promoting efficiency and long-term growth. In the modern environment, enterprises must strive for superior management practices guided by the value statements. According to Smith and Plunkett (2019), in the healthcare industry, the culture of excellence means increasing demand for better patient safety, improving treatment qualities, and improving working surroundings. The value statements – mission, vision, and values – continuously enhance the organizational aspirations and foster an organizational culture that supports continuous improvement at all organizational levels (Carvalho et al., 2019). The various sections within an organization should be open to delivering the best quality of services and be motivated to improve constantly. As such, the paper shall analyze various characteristics of the culture of excellence, the value statements at Dignity Health, and the leadership strategies to promote the culture of excellence and their reflection in the Chamberlain Care Model.
Discussion
A culture of excellence is always practised as an appropriate response to the demand for high-quality products and services. According to Hayne et al. (2020), the culture of excellence focuses on employees’ conviction of meaningful work and on performing at above-normal levels and having constant improvement. Employee motivation is based on various work environment factors such as compensation, equity and fairness practices, and organizational values. Effective leadership has to accompany these factors as a crucial process to ensure the superiority of performance and execution of the mission.
Various characteristics and practices determine an organization under the culture of excellence. The organization should demonstrate a commitment to culture through its mission and purpose (Smith & Plunkett, 2019). The healthcare facility and personnel should demonstrate various aspects of patient safety as crucial aspects of quality and application of evidence-based practices in the mission statement. This aspect is also supported by the recognition of employee efforts to meet the goal through the provision of high-quality treatment and care.
The culture of excellence focuses on improving performance, primarily through opportunities for the personnel to constantly deliver high-quality products and services. The aspect focuses on employees having an efficient workplace plan. Medeiros (2020) notes that communication is integral to developing a workplace environment that fosters constant improvements. The employees and management should ensure there are clear and open communication channels that eliminate the concealing of information and promote collaboration. Additionally, open communication allows for appropriate work schedules, conditions and reward systems that improve productivity.
In the healthcare industry, a culture of excellence is vital for the provision of quality services. It applies to all personnel regardless of their hierarchical or horizontal provision. According to Hayne et al. (2020), various programs exist to assist learners in continuous improvement and improvement in any activity. Employees can learn to practice the culture of excellence in day-to-day practice and understand the various ways in which they can improve on the challenges in the workplace where higher levels of performance are vital.
Dignity Health is a chain of healthcare service providers with facilities across the US. The analysis of Dignity Health offers a unique opportunity to analyze the organization’s mission and vision statements. The mission of Dignity Health is to have a common spirit of health where “we make the healing presence of God known in our world” through constant improvements in service to people, especially the vulnerable, and advancing social justice (Dignity Health, 2024). The vision of the organization is to have a healthier future for all persons through innovation, inspired by faith, and powered by humanity. The values of the organization are humanism, action, teamwork, innovation, and faith.
The mission and vision statements reflect the culture of excellence. The mission statement explicitly states the constant improvements in service to people. This element directly improves the patient’s status, especially as part of service, and exceeds expectations as a focus on superiority (Dignity Health, 2024). Additionally, the values of innovation and teamwork are important as they highlight the need for collaboration and continuity of better healthcare service as part of the organizational culture of excellence.
Leadership is a significant element that assists in implementing and maintaining a culture of excellence. According to Medeiros (2020), the organization’s management approach should be specific and based on the purpose statements and employees. In the modern environment, the leadership in nursing care has to consider the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, the changes in safety policies, communication and globalization challenges that affect the organization and industry. Additionally, there is a need to commit to continuity in education and skill improvement and communicate values through action. This is important as a tool to offer aspiration to personnel to build on their activities, leading to excellence in service delivery. Another strategy that assists nurse workers in improving their functioning is to improve their intrinsic motivation. In this way, they constantly work to improve their work processes.
The Chamberlain Care Model is vital as a tool to develop a culture of excellence in the nursing profession. The framework is important as a tool for dealing with self-care, workplace colleagues, and students and creating an educational and clinical environment (Hayne et al., 2020). The Chamberlain Care Model is reflected in the leadership strategies that commit to continuous skill improvement and communication of organizational values. There is active involvement in dealing with subordinate work, conditions for caring and influence of the results.
In conclusion, the culture of excellence is a vital part of building organizational values that deliver quality services and efficient performance among employees. The culture of excellence should be embedded in the purpose statements as a deliberate strategy to ingrain the values. Personnel should continually commit to continuous improvement and indicate the important values in active examples. At Dignity Health, there is a demonstration of commitment to a culture of excellence through the explicit purpose of continually improving, as stated in the mission statement. Leadership strategies should consider employee motivation and continuous education as important factors supporting a culture of excellence. Through the exercise, insight is built on the significance of healthcare facility performance as part of a continuous process known as a culture of excellence. In the future, leadership strategies will be applicable in formulating patient care policies and work environments for continuous patient care.
