Report on Creating an Ergonomically Appropriate Work Environment.

Executive Summary

Our organization has been through a helpful collaboration with workplace consultants on matters relating to ergonomics. Through this significant collaboration, we have made a positive decision with the managing team to create an ergonomically appropriate working environment. An ergonomic environment is essential to our organization since it improves employees’ well-being and productivity. Embracing this strategy facilitates reduced stress and physical strains that could be possible hindrances to employee unproductivity. Moreover, an ergonomic environment prevents injuries and risks relating to employee safety in the company. Some of the key considerations in the ergonomic environment include Proper computer positioning, comfortable and supportive chairs, proper lighting, regular breaks and many more. This report clearly defines some ergonomic strategies that can be adopted and related benefits. Moreover, it indicates why adopting this environment and even implementing it could be a positive change for the company.

Introduction.

Ergonomics is defined as the science of designing the workplace while considering the limitations and capabilities of the employee. Designing the workplace environment while at the same time keeping the employees in consideration enhances productivity and also effective working. Ergonomics, therefore, curb the risk of unproductivity from employees, which may result from poor working conditions, fatigue and stress(Mph, 2019). Coming up with an ergonomically appropriate working environment requires the implementation of manifold ergonomic strategies. However, our current focus is on the most effective relative to our company. These are Workstation design and Health and wellness programs. An ergonomically appropriate environment has significant benefits to the company; not only does it enhance productivity, but it also builds a good reputation for the company and upgrades the company in the market.

Ergonomic Strategies

Workstation Design

Our company still has old equipment . Regularly, we have received complaints from employees about the uncomfortability of the chairs and the desks and that the lighting could be more appropriate. Through our interaction with workplace consultants, we have analyzed and resolved that new equipment that has an impact on the design of the workplace should be implemented. Therefore, one of the strategies to be implemented is the workstation design, incorporatingon of new and comfortable chairs and dereinstatingation of the company’s lighting for productive work.

Assessments and Benefits

We conducted a study on the company employees and also incorporated interviews for additional information. In the study, we noticed that employees strain to use computers and manage the work due to the poor condition of the furniture, which led us to concludethat we have less completed work being submitted in a day. Additionally, many employees in the interviews complained of the uncomfortable chairs, the length of their desks and the effect of lighting on their sight. Through this study we camecame up with a conclusion that one of the ergonomic strategies is to adjust the workstation design. The benefit of this is that with proper lighting, employees will find it comfortable working and avoid eyesight problems(Van Wijk, 2023). Moreover, with effective lighting, the workers can be more productive. On the other hand, we identified that with comfortable seats and proper-length desks, the employees could finish tasks easily due to less fatigue and will not be stressed about the workload because they were unable to finish the work out of tiredness.

Health and Wellness Programs

This is another ergonomic strategy that we identified in alignment with our situation. With a well-established health and wellness program, the risk of work injuries can be avoided. This involves developing a program that pushes employees to be aware of their health and educate them on the importance of taking care of their health and avoiding safety risks within the company.

Assessment and Benefits.

We also conducted a study on the employees and noted that many were taking sick leaves and were also victims of stress due to the poor lighting and working environment. We de,visediscoveredincorporating health and wellness programs could help with the problem.

Conducting training on how to handle machinery and equipment and also how to act in case of an accident can also be incorporated into the program. A health and wellness program will limit absenteesm since workers will experience less sick days(Wellable, 2024). Furthermore, the program pushes employees to be aware of their health and leading them to know how to manage stress, eat well, get adequate sleep and maintain healthy relationships. TheSe habits facilitate productivity and enhances employee engagement.

Recommendation.

I recommend implementing ergonomic strategies, specifically, change in workplace design and the formation of a health and wellness program in the company because it is the solution to the employee challenges. With thesee two strategies, wecan attain productivty while simultaneouslyme focusing on the well-being of our company and its members.

Conclusion.

Our company has been able to handle every situation that has proved challenging to the smooth running of activities. In this case, some of the things that we should highly consider is the safety and productivity of workers which has proved to be a significant threat with the risks involved. With the ergonomic strategies stated, we can limit the problems related to employees that has been affecting the productivity of the company. Having a health and wellness program and making adjustments on the workstation design may just be simple ways to mitigate these challenges.
