Google’s Corporate Strategy and Diversification

Assignment 1

Part A

Offering internet-related goods and services is a key component of Google’s business strategy. The company provides various goods and services, including email, search, advertising, maps, software, and operating systems for mobile phones. The company has a competitive advantage in terms of growth potential and profitability due to its diverse business portfolio. A few competitive threats the business must handle include the emergence of competing search engines, the proliferation of ad-blocking software, and the entry of new competitors into the market.

Part B

The expansion and profitability of Google’s new businesses and products have been successful. Thanks to this diversification, Google has expanded its customer base and reached new markets. Additionally, it has helped Google compete more effectively with its rivals. Google, for instance, has had great success with its Android operating system since it entered the smartphone market. Google is now better able to compete with Apple and other smartphone makers.

Additionally, Google’s diversification has improved its ability to weather economic downturns (George, 2014). For instance, Google’s diversification allowed it to grow throughout the 2008 financial crisis while many other businesses were having trouble. In general, Google’s success has been greatly aided by its diversification.

The company has experienced particular success with its browsers, mobile phone operating systems, and mobile devices, which has aided in its prominence in the tech sector. It is still unclear whether the company’s driverless car project will be profitable in the long run as it has not yet seen commercial success. Although driverless vehicles have the potential to revolutionize the transportation sector, it is still unclear whether they will be financially viable (George, 2014). The business is still in its infancy, so many obstacles must be overcome. The main difficulty is the exorbitant cost of development. The business has also invested in various sectors, including public regulations and acceptance.

Google has been successful in diversifying its business for a few key reasons. First, Google has demonstrated great creativity in creating new goods and services. For instance, Google made a very intelligent decision to develop the Android operating system, which has paid off handsomely. Second, Google has a strong track record of acquiring complementary companies that have aided in its expansion. One successful example is Google’s acquisition of YouTube. Moreover, Google has made excellent use of its sizable cash reserves by investing in start-up companies. All in all, these elements have helped Google succeed in diversifying its business.

Assignment 2

Without knowing more about Google’s overall business strategy, it would be difficult to advise abandoning or selling any of the company’s numerous businesses and products. Google ought to continue running all of its businesses and producing all of its goods. Every company and every product has something special to offer customers. However, a few ventures and services that Google offers might be expanded to aid the global community during the pandemic following COVID-19. Google Classroom is one of these products. Teachers can free create and manage online courses using Google Classroom (YouTube). Allowing anyone to design and manage online courses could help the service grow to support the global community during a COVID-19 pandemic. This would make it possible for anyone, anywhere in the world, to pick up new skills or knowledge.

Google Hangouts is an additional product that might be developed to aid the global community in a COVID-19 pandemic. Video chatting between users is possible through Google Hangouts, a free service. The service could be enhanced by enabling video chat with physicians or other medical professionals to assist the global community in a COVID-19 pandemic. This would allow people to access medical advice worldwide (YouTube). Google has a wide range of businesses and goods to offer. There are a few businesses and products that Google offers that could be expanded to aid the global community in the event of a COVID-19 pandemic. However, it would be difficult to advise giving up on or selling any of them without knowing more about the company’s overall business strategy.

Conclusion

Offering internet-related goods and services is a key component of Google’s business strategy. The company provides various goods and services, including email, search, advertising, maps, software, and operating systems for mobile phones.
