One of the interviewees, in this case, is a coworker, and according to his response, the following are some key takeaways. The culture upholds gender roles, with specific chores assigned based on gender. In that case, family units are headed by a father, and the role of the mother is to look after the kids, which includes instilling basic moralities and discipline. The girls are assistants to the mothers, and the boys are tasked with caring for the physically demanding tasks at home. In terms of artistic goals, education serves as the point of reference that drives family members to attain those goals. On the other hand, this colleague’s perspective on alternative approaches to life is that before committing to a marriage, partners need to be around the same surroundings to understand each other. From a religious standpoint, the interviewee comes out as religious, like his family, and they subscribe to religious teachings, including life after death. Their ancestors live on in newborns (Ekore & Lanre-Abass, 2016). As one of the family providers, society upholds his career, whereas their preferred means of communication is verbal juggling between his first language and English.

The second interviewee, in this case, is a family member who is my biological father, the basis for choosing him for the interview is because he comprehends cultural matters. The key takeaway regarding family roles is equal sharing of responsibilities regardless of gender to uphold good conduct. It is dependent on communication between the individuals and the relationship between parents. According to my father, the goal of a family is monetary stability, ensuring that family members are provided with basic needs, including education. In the case of alternative lifestyles, there is some lack of appropriateness as individuals are encouraged to stick together despite conflicts. The family is religious, and it shows its commitment by encouraging family members to attend church alongside hosting household services for efficiency. Despite that, the interviewee, in this case, does not uphold the concept of life after death. Due to the family’s inclination towards education, most family members are educated, which is the reason behind the family’s enhanced financial status. Also, the preferred means of communication in the unit is verbal, which entails communicating among members in both English and the first native language.

The contrast of the Findings Between the Interviewees

Following the family interview activity, in this case, there are various stand-out perspectives between the two cultures regarding similarities and differences, with the differences outweighing the few similarities. The obvious similarity in both cultures is the inclination toward verbal communication, where both families communicate in English and their native languages. The founding of educational goals is consistent in both cultures. Some examples of differences lie between the two cultures regarding gender roles. For instance, in the case of the first respondent, their culture upholds perspectives that cite roles being divided in line with gender. In contrast, in the case of the family member interviewed, roles are shared equally regardless of one’s gender. Another difference is that in the case of alternative lifestyles, the colleague who is the first interviewer, in this case, is inclined towards sharing a roof with your partner even before marriage. In contrast, in the case of my father’s culture, does not uphold that. Also, the two cultures one does not uphold the idea of life after death, while the colleague’s side believes there is life after death.


Family roles impact the cultural domains and relationships of the individuals involved in this interview in various ways. Based on the family interview conducted in this case, the family member indicates that gender roles are non-existent, whose impact is improved relationships and the overall cultural domain. On the contrary, in the colleague’s culture, which champions gender roles, there are possible conflicts in cases where the individual assigned the role to consider it a concern causing affected relationships in the family. As indicated by Muscato (2021), it is also evident that communication relationships from the perspective of sharing duties and roles are improved. Most importantly, the cultural relationships and domain serve as family image enhancers as the point of reference regarding individual conduct and goals.
