Critique of the Book “Giving Voice to Values” by Gentile, M. C

Gentile discusses the basics and content of giving voice to views in a concise manner. The book is engaging and enlightening, and it teaches the reader the importance of standing up for their ideas, particularly at work. An ethical rule specifies what is and is not acceptable, but a moral perception is a concept motivated by a desire to do and be good. It is critical to distinguish between the two when addressing them in a business or workplace context. For example, an ethical breach may arise if a company steals from its employees by concealing specific product information. On the other hand, a person’s motivation to do good and come out as a whistleblower is impacted by their values and treasured convictions.

The book also underlined the need to deal with ethical difficulties calmly. When presented with a moral quandary, most people panic, which impacts their conduct and, as a result, the situation’s outcome (Gentile, 2010). However, addressing a value-based problem calmly allows one to examine one’s options and choose the most advantageous course of action. Ethical issues are widespread in business and need serious study and broad understanding. Only when the matter is faced and controlled calmly can appropriate action be done.

Thirdly, the book emphasizes the need to match your goal with the business. For instance, while applying for a job at a company, it is crucial to examine and study its principles and ethics. This would assist you in determining whether or not you are a suitable fit for the company and whether or not your ideals would conflict or generate difficulties. Additionally, one should always be ready to speak up. This involves knowledge of your abilities, values, limitations, and preferences. This facilitates the development of practical tools that may motivate the company to perform better. Additionally, it affects confidence, a crucial aspect of dealing with ethical dilemmas. It is essential to recognize that articulating your beliefs improves decision-making. It has an impact not just on management but also on other employees. In this instance, the organization improves; its members become value-driven and ethical.
