Problem Description
The global problem of drug and substance abuse has become a crisis that is affecting not only individuals but also their surrounding society at large. Globally, there were over 296 million drug users in 2021, a 23% rise from the preceding decade(UNODC World Drug Report 2023). The extent of this issue demands a proactive and integrated strategy to curb the addiction epidemic and change drug abusers’ lives as well as society in kind. The rise in substance misuse as an underlying factor by Osman (2023) reveals harmful mental health dangers that lead to conditions including anxiety, depression, and psychosis.
Significance and Supporting Evidence
Addressing drug and substance abuse is being highlighted by its adverse effect on the individual, society, and globally at large. Osman (2023) points out that substance use impacts organizational workforce productivity. According to the national survey of American workers, ∼15.3% indicated they worked under the influence of alcohol, and 2.9 % reported drug use at work(Genres, 2023). In addition, Edmund (2021) illustrates that 79.3% of employed individuals, either part-time or5 full-time 76.1% of them, are heavy drinkers. The socio-economic repercussions and the long-term health effects also draw on to emphasize this issue as an essential matter.
Proposal Outline
The recommended approach is the action plan for a multiagency alliance with incorporated community groups, healthcare service providers, law enforcement agencies, schools, and community leaders. Addiction specialists and counsellors will contribute significantly in terms of evidence-based treatment options, whereas community outreach programs focus on popularizing awareness creation, myth destruction, and early intervention. As suggested by Osman (2023), collaboration with local government and law enforcement aims to create conducive breeding spaces and craft key operational regulations.
Critical Social Work Practice
The theoretical ideas supporting the proposal are advocacy, community development, and empowerment. Advocacy includes policy changes, mobilizing stakeholders, and focusing efforts on resource allocation for prevention & treatment programs, along with findings reported by Eremin et al. (2019). Community development also includes public participation. Therefore, citizens must participate in this process and hold officials responsible for the intervention strategies they create.
Outcomes
This proposal aims to transform people, families, and communities. In this proposal, prevention programs, examples of treatment alternatives, and education plans try to reduce the decrease in addiction rates; it also narrows down mental health issues and donates positive societal changes. Moreover, rehabilitation services and a supportive community will be provided, resulting in stable families and communities with fewer incidences of crime. Eventually, the result is achieved to ensure that healthier and less vulnerable areas with a reduced rate of substance abuse are built backbone.
Beneficiaries and Impact.
The recipients include victims of substance use, such as individuals, families, and communities. The proposal aims to provide rehabilitation services, amend broken families, and build neighbourhoods with a low crime rate. Comprehensive ethical issues matter in healthcare settings and social justice, and assumptions of substance abuse origin and correct intervention will be challenged.
In conclusion, therefore, the proposal undertakes a multiagency approach to combat drug and substance abuse and strives towards transforming individuals as well as their communities for the excellent health and safety of society.
