The international community’s role in building the capacity of the government, media, and civil society of different countries. The efforts are concentrated and coordinated with the aim of maximizing efficacy in the country. Therefore, the countries agree to establish other elements that set the essential criteria when making the different countries’ laws. The standard role of the international community is maintaining stability in the member countries in terms of peace and financial aid. The paper will therefore focus on discussing the contribution of China to the international community such as the United Nations(UN).
China`s increased participation in the international community is attributed to its expanding power and the increased commitment in the foreign countries. The entry of China into the global community took place in 1971. Since then, Chinese contributions to the international community remain recommendable and significant contributions to peacekeeping operations. China is currently the world leader when it comes to peacekeeping activities with the focus on enhancing its image on the global table. With the extensive economic stability, China is contributing immensely to peacemaking with an annual contribution towards the peacekeeping operations in the UN. According to Sterling (2017), China is currently the second-largest contributor to the UN budget of over 12%, indicating its voice in international community operations. For instance, in 2000, the Chinese contribution was $12 million, which was just 1% of the UN budget, but by 2019 the contribution increased to $370 million, which was 12% of the U budget following the USA (Sterling, 2017). Additionally, Feltman 2020) states that China has released over 40,000 peacekeepers to more than 30 missions. The UN and the host nations highly prefer the Chinese peacemakers for their professionalism (Mang, 2008).
China also contributes significantly to security in the international community. This is due to the increased use of its security council Veto. China has deployed its security Veto 17 times less than the other permanent members such as Russia, the USA, and France. However, using Veto privilege, China is predicted to defeat France. In recent years, the Chinese troops have been part of the UN security council, contributing significantly to the peace efforts in different regions. The country dispatches’ high-value troops who help combat attacks in other areas (FELTMAN, 2020). For instance, in 2015, China was recognized as a global security provider when President Xi Jinping released 8000 troops as the UN force. At the same time, China also pledged $100 million directed to the African Union as the standby force. Through this, China has played a role in boosting the international community’s peace operations and enhancing the international community’s security (Fung, 2016).
The participation of China in the international community has given the nation powers to penetrate other countries. China has taken advantage of its extreme economic expansion to penetrate different countries, increasing investments into developing nations. The statistic shows that Chinese investment in Asia and other international countries increased from $5.7 billion in 2005 to 50 billion in 2015 (Wenbin & Wilkes, 2019). The investment of China in other countries, including developing countries like Kenya and Uganda, among others. The openness of China to make significant investments in foreign countries poses a threat to the success of these countries in terms of development in the sense that the share of China in these countries may affect the operation of these governments (Sterling, 2017).
Also, being a member of the international community has given China the chance to offer loans to developing nations. In 2020, for instance, China lent out 1.5 trillion in direct loans to more than 150 countries, among them most African countries (Vieira, 2018). The international lending policy allows China is enhancing positive economic stability. Still, it poses a risk to these developing countries if they fail to pay the debts. This means China will gain control of the resources for these countries as compensation. This is based on the fact that the developing countries are still struggling financially. With the recent changes in the economy and the effect of Covid-19, most developing countries are struggling (Sterling, 2017). Therefore with China fueling money into their economy, it will reach a point where China gains control of these countries’ resources (FELTMAN, 2020).
Further, the recent years have been marked by the increase in the number of Chinese migrants adding the complexity factor to the Chinese African relationships. As China invests in international countries, it is involved in the security levels of these countries. (Mang, 2008) Therefore, the high number of people migrating to the African countries threatens the employment opportunities for the local citizens as most jobs are located in the Chinese nationalities. Also, China is the leading country when it comes to industrialization. As a result, China of international relationship, China has expanded its investment into different countries (Mang, 2008). As the countries allow China to invest, the primary concern is the increasing pollution levels due to the carbon gases released into the atmosphere (Vieira, 2018). The countries are gaining, but the primary concern remains on China’s efforts to address the increasing pollution levels in these countries. Many problems surround whether China implements the possible ways to protect the countries environment by controlling pollution levels.
In conclusion, China has experienced drastic expansion over the years, giving the country the power to operate effectively on the international table. China has also actively participated in the international community, making a significant contribution to the peace-making process through channeling contributions. Also, China plays a role in global security by ensuring that the Chinese troops take the peace-making approach. However, the high penetration level in developing countries poses both positive and negative concerns. First, China is fueling the economic expansion of these countries. However, with the changing economic trends, concerns remain about what will happen if these countries fail to pay their debts. This means that China may take control of the country’s resources, which may negatively impact the operation of the nation`s economy.
