Body Art in Organizational Selection

Body art involves a wide range of approaches. It involves more performed art where the artist is directly concerned with the body in the form of choreographed actions and staged events. Body art has been used for body exploration and in other media such as sculpture, photography, painting, film, and video (Lawrence, R. J. (2014). Body art has been mainly concerned with issues of personal identity and gender. A theme emerges from the body and mind, where the body must undergo physical endurance to test the limits of the mind and body to withstand pain. Body art also focuses on the theme of body nourishment. Much research has been conducted on the importance of body art as a result of the big rise in several people, especially tattoos in the USA, but this will focus on body art and selection in the organization.

Selection of marketing employees.

In sociological field study and aesthetic labor, body art focuses mainly on the employee’s appearance from a production angle. At the same time, branded labor focuses on the employee’s appearance in a consumption manner, considering the consumer’s perception, especially on front-line employees (Faulkner, N., & Nagle, J. (2018). When this framework is analyzed, employing employees with very visible tattoos can be helpful in the organization as it can boost its image, especially in firms and organizations targeting young individuals. Research questions have been used to guide the research on how tattoos can be used as an asset in the job market and How tattoos owned by front-line employees can positively impact the organization’s brand. Most organizations are very strict regarding the office front liners and employees, as they matter to the company’s reputation. Traditionally, society has viewed most people who own tattoos as being labeled as deviant, criminals, and of questionable character (Faulkner, N., & Nagle, J. (2018). In the selection of employees, most companies look for beautiful ladies and young, good-looking men who are believed to influence the marketing of the products. Those with visible tattoos, especially ladies, are unattractive and can easily paint a questionable reputation for the company. However, in recent times, organizations have slowly come to the reality and acceptance of tattoos, but those that match the organizational goals are much more accepted. Currently, people with tattoos face less prejudice as some businesses that have employed people with tattoos have experienced booming business due to the attraction of the young generation and their urge to identify and associate with businesses that cater to their interests.

Treatment of people with body art in an organization.

My recommendations on the treatment of people with body art in organizations are one: job code, policies, and regulations. Each job has policies and regulations that must be followed and adhered to (Brown, B., & Berndt, V. K. (2023). If there is flexibility, then people with body art can be allowed. Second is the changing times. It is high time we acknowledge that times are changing, and there is a need to embrace change. It is not worth losing the service of a qualified employee just because of body art, but learning to embrace them. My third recommendation is to learn to accept people for who they are, regardless of their appearance. Some young men have body tattoos because of an identity crisis, and all they need is acceptance. It is important to embrace them to avoid destroying their self-esteem. Some people have body art for the purpose of deep messages that are personal to the individuals, which may have a psychological impact on them. We must learn to accept each one the way they are.

Fourth, most people with tattoos have argued that they are therapeutic. Some people going through grief have found solace in body art. Therefore, it is important to understand why one might be having tattoos, which calls for tolerance and understanding among many employers who might be ignorant of this fact. Fifth is job scope. There are always job descriptions and scope for every opportunity (Tate. (n.d.). Some jobs will require an employee to work with certain people, such as the elderly and religious groups, which do not acknowledge body art much. Most still view people with tattoos as criminals and without proper guidance and less informed. Some religions, such as Christianity, condemn body art. In such scenarios, the organization should send those individuals that such groups prefer to listen to and safeguard the organization’s interests.

Conclusion

Body art is one of the upcoming employment sectors in the job market because many people are interested in having tattoos. It is necessary to sensitize society on body art’s positive and negative effects and relevance. Body art can be used positively to pass important information, and it is worth sensitizing to avoid stigmatization of individuals with body art.
