Over the years, closely working with my friends and family has been an integral part of my social connection; however, during the pandemic, I started feeling lonely. This was majorly due to having little or no social connection with my peers during the pandemic period. This led to a rise in loneliness due to a lack of social interaction and support from my peers, resulting in symptoms of mental health. However, after this period, I had a chat over coffee with my friend for a long day, and this created a connection through the time spent together and created a bonding experience. I believe that in everyday life, we mostly spend our days having to balance different activities, such as school activities, work, and family responsibilities, and this leaves us with no time to connect with our family members and close friends. The physical interaction that I had with my close friend created a lot of benefits in social connection from the human connection. During the pandemic period, I was feeling lonely, and according to a survey, the study showed that every 2 in every 5 Americans reported feeling lonely, and this is most cases developed to cases of isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. During my period of loneliness, I lacked a genuine human connection, which is crucial in building meaningful relationships with others.
Analyzing human connections has impacted my life by forming deep bonds with people, which makes people valued and builds on positive energy through building trust.
Human connection is important in our lives as it first fulfills the basic needs of having social interaction that gives a sense of belonging in society. From my human connection, it gave my life emotional support and reduced my feelings of loneliness, and the overall contribution to my well-being. There are, however, challenges that can be associated with human connection due to the vulnerability of disclosing personal choice of interaction (MacMahon, 2020). I believe that achieving the power of human connection can be done by surrounding yourself with people who have shared interests. Another step is overcoming resistance since creating and building relationships often requires intimidation from peers and rejection, which may result from sharing personal information about oneself. Hence, overcoming resistance and adopting change is crucial to help us embrace situations that are outside our comfort zones in relationships that we have with others (Narayanan et al., 2020). Having a positive attitude, as first impressions count, helps in naturally drawing people close. Having gratitude and being optimistic develops positivity, as backed by research studies that show people are naturally attracted to positive emotions more than negativity. Open up to others helps you have more conversations and interactions with others. Having a more authentic version of yourself helps people get the most out of the interaction that you engage in. This is effective in creating a human connection with others and establishing friendships by being open to others. At the same time, networking and having conversations, it is essential to put away the phone to make conversations comfortable with others. Retreating the use of smartphones in social situations can hinder our ability to make real-life social connections during conversations with others. Research studies show that having a phone during a networking situation or conference makes one less approachable. It is, hence, important to focus by being present and engaging with others around us without immersing ourselves in the use of phones, which could potentially act as a source of distraction in our interactions with people around us.
Human connection needs to be nurtured by staying in touch to grow and deepen the connections. This ensures that you do not lose touch with close friends and family members by maintaining the existing relationships. Building a lasting human connection is a key aspect in overcoming loneliness and impacts towards living a life more fulfilled with happiness and building opportunities based on genuine connections. The power of human connection helps provide emotional support, which greatly contributes to reducing loneliness and personal well-being. I value human connections as they help me feel more whole and complete. Based on positive connections help add meaning and purpose to my life. The power of human connection can be experienced by having good connections with others that increase cooperation between us.
