Gioia’s argument in dismissing the link between jazz and Storyville also serves to emphasize African American communities as being key players in the conception of Jazz. While it is believed that jazz grew out of the red-light districts like Storyville, New Orleans contained a vibrant culture in places such as “the Back of Town”. From this cultural viewpoint, it is possible to trace jazz back to its roots and authentic origins inextricably bound to the life stories of African American communities including their cultures and social interactions. Highlighting jazz’s natural progression in these neighborhoods makes it easy for the story to move away from sensationalized linkages to vice and sinfulness. Thus, there is reclaiming its narrative as a musical style of artistic expression but more significantly solemn socialization. Jelly Roll Morton, in his works reflecting on those true scenes reflects the incredibly rich inflorescence of influences that jazz developed through; this confirms its racial heritage.
The impact of Buddy Bolden on jazz history transcends recognition as being among its earliest writers. The same essentially implies that as one of the first cornet players who came from New Orleans an area full of musical life made its breakthrough possible. As a result, the migration contributed to the expansion of jazz outside its motherland promoting transculturation and creativity and leading to pattern affluence for genre evolution. Having transcended its regional territories, the Great Migration emerged as a major driving force propelling jazz to become more nationalized which made it an embodiment of American art.
The behavior of Jelly Roll Morton towards his cultural background can be interpreted by the system in which racism and discrimination thrived all over America during the early 20th century. Insisting on his European descendants and avoiding the African heritages he has might be an instrumental strategy. The instrumental strategy is useful to survive in an industry where Whites were predominant, ensuring him more opportunities and acceptance. The denial of his real cultural heritage is indicative of the difficulties encountered by the marginalized in embracing their past as a mere society values it. Today the same dynamics prevail, with people still struggling with societal pressures and internalized racism as well for acceptance. For perception, Morton’s actions conspire to provoke complexity by recognizing the historical elements fueling appreciation of cultural heritage in defiance of barriers regarding systems. The story of this man reminds us of the inevitability and resonance with challenges about perennially sought recognition, and equality, addressing issues related to identity.

Joplin’s remarkable knack for melody artfully brings together sophisticated syncopations and infectious melodies, thrilling listeners of this work with its vivid sound. The thing that strikes me as most remarkable in this piece is Joplin’s ability to combine themes of African rhythmic music with classical Western influences, suggesting his creative ways. Though there are several tempo changes, Joplin’s love for Moderato creates an ideal mood and allows the listener ideally to enjoy every bit of music luxury. The timeless masterpiece is not only a demonstration of what Joplin could do for people but also shows his talent. It leaves us in no doubt at all that ragtime was an important part of the composer’s work as well as American musical culture.
King Oliver’s Creole band and Jelly Roll Morton Chicago bands present a lively style that is notable for being in New Orleans jazz. Given that it emerged from a Creole band made up of artists of color who are deeply immersed in the jazz tradition, Oliver’s offerings have an energy that is both authentic and vibrant based on their shared heritage. Morton’s Chicago band will not have as much authenticity and depth in its performances as seen within Oliver Ensemble which was a majority of White men imitating New Orleans jazz. As a viewer, I would be more willing to pay for the opportunity to see Oliver’s Creole band because they seem authentic and grounded in their roots (Gioia 10). Careful listening to the subtleties of how notes are played brings in subtle variations of groove and swing that also enhance collective experience with authenticity being reinforced by Oliver’s band.
