Introduction

The recent rapid expansion of the economic environment has encouraged a similarly rapid growth of the global business environment. To manage the ever-increasing global business competition, effective leadership is recognized as the most essential part. Leaders control and take charge of the operations of the organization and good leaders set optimistic goals through strategic leadership. The paper explores strategic vision, communication, motivation and ethics in the global environment and how these factors integrate with leadership.

The strategic vision offers an overview of where an organization wants to be in a specific time in the future. Leadership is essential in the development and implementation of strategic vision and without it; it is unlikely that a good strategy will be implemented. Indeed, it is important to acknowledge that vision is the core of leadership in addition to being the heart of a strategy. The role of a leader in a strategic vision is to create a strategy that embraces both the imagination and the energies and skills of the employees (Chaston, 2013). In the development of the strategic vision, the leader should ensure the specifics of the strategy are tied to the values and culture of the organization. A strategic visionary leader endeavors to strike a balance between being a dreamer and being an implementer.

As a leader, communication is vital not only in expressing the details about a mission or a vision but also in motivating, inspiring and managing the relationships that ensure people move in a specified desired direction. Leadership communication extends beyond the words a leader alter to encompass how the words are articulated. Effective communication is grounded on embracing emotional intelligence, understanding the audience and actively listening to other opinions (Chaston, 2013). A leader can meritoriously communicate their vision by being present, working on emotional intelligence, asking the right questions in addition to staying calm and positive. Similarly, in the communication channel a leader can concentrate on improving the listening skills, since being a good leader encompasses being a good listener at some point. Improving listening skills involves being present in the moment, looking at the person speaking, valuing the importance of non-verbal communication, value the importance of suspending judgment prior to assessing every detail, and asking specific question to clarify on issues.

Motivation is a goal-oriented characteristic that in one way or another assists an individual to attain his or her objectives. Motivation inspires a people to work hard to achieve their goals. A leader must possess the traits to influence motivation. In the past few decades, the workplace has been rapidly evolving and shifting (Annderson, Bjornhalt, & Ladegaard, 2016). Currently, it is important to intrinsically motivate the employee for both their benefits and the benefit of the organization. An effective leader, therefore, must understand the workings of motivation through recognizing the needs of the employees, peers and his or her superiors alike. Motivation generally increases morale, which positively influences productivity and by extension efficiency. Just as motivation encourages the employees to achieve their goals, it similarly works to assist the leader achieve his strategic vision which subsequently motivates him. The joy associated with inspiring others, builds confidence in a leader as such improving his leadership skills.

Ethical leaders naturally set high ethical standards and endeavor to act in accordance to these standards. Leaders do not operate in isolation but rather they are part of a global marketplace in a global economy and global communication. Ethical standards are particularly important when one recognizes that leaders are operating in a broader community (Hegarty & Moccia, 2018). High ethical standards and ethical leaders recognize the different facets of operating in a global society and therefore develop a strict moral principle for their juniors.

Conclusion

It is evident leaders have a hand in different operations of an organizations from the objectives and the vision, to how these goals are communicated to motivating the employers to pursue these goals and upholding ethics in a global business environment. Therefore, a leader has the power to influence the success of the organization primarily due to his or her power in controlling the direction of the business.
