Leadership Responses to Social Issues: A Comparative Analysis

The social condition of mental health is experienced now by so many people during their teenage years. In response to this situation, two organizations, Serenity Haven Counseling Center and Harmony Outreach Collective, face two possibilities that are compared. Serenity Haven Counseling Center organization has developed behavioral solutions ranging from organizing counseling sessions and therapy to monitoring the client’s progress so that each attains specific outcomes. Such behaviors have been displayed by those who have adopted relationship-oriented behaviors by offering emotional support to the parents and adolescents, recognizing the works of the parents who ask for help, and creating a supportive atmosphere in the process of fostering learning (Khaw et al., 2023). If balancing out the needs and the situations connected with mental illness is concerned, the mentioned practical behaviors are also included. However, it goes through new ways of thinking, adapting to emerging mental health trends, and destigmatizing mental illness.

As a response, Harmony Outreach Collective, a community agency engaged in educating the public, provides a comprehensive list of services, including coordinating mental health awareness campaigns, organizing workshops for parents and educators, and immediate crisis response through crisis intervention training. The residents display community-oriented behaviors by forging partners with local schools and healthcare agencies, acknowledging communal individuals’ mental health contributions, and fostering discussions geared towards positive mental health within the community. Change-seeking activities are seen in their tradition of adjusting their programs according to the community’s feedback through advocating to improve mental health resources and create an ecosystem of acceptance.

Such responses considerably affect the youth and families the organizations serve. Adolescents and families in Harmony Outreach Collective Organization have been remarkably happier and healthier mentally due to advancements in counseling interventions, increased awareness, and reduced prejudice faced by those with mental disorders. While Harmony Outreach Collective Organization’s work would result in enriched support systems in the community, better accessibility to resources, and greater strength among students and families in dealing with mental health issues, Serenity Haven Counseling Center organization’s activity leads to improving mental health.

Connection to Task, Relations, and Change-Oriented Behaviors

Task-oriented behavior played a vital role in the leadership efficacy of the two organizations. Serenity Haven Counseling Center organization is still catching up with the behaviors exhibited through the education campaigns and workshops they hold. By creating objectives and guidelines for these actions, the organization is establishing a well-structured and result-oriented system, which, in the end, results in further advocacy and demonization of mental health issues (Lewis et al., 2011). Harmony Outreach Collective Organization engages in task-oriented behaviors, just like the Serenity Haven Counseling Center organization, as one of the goals they set for themselves is to bring mental health education into the school curriculum. This is a matter of foresight and smooth execution to achieve the aims through which educational programs should be developed collaboratively.

Relations-oriented behaviors play a crucial role in both organizations’ leadership responses. Serenity Haven Counseling Center organization gives emotional support to young people who are at risk by creating a supportive system through the use of workshops and counseling sessions. By listening with empathy and being positive, the organization can form a relationship with youth to help them overcome why they are attending therapy. This, in turn, will increase the youth’s willingness to seek help. In the meantime, Harmony Outreach Collective Organization zeroes in on the local leaders as partners in garnering support that spurs policy-oriented adjustments in mental health education. By this cooperative method, the organization gets solid enough to match the community’s norms, focusing on efforts involving youth and families.

Personal Reflection on Leadership Responses

The way the selected organizations dealt with mental health problems among young citizens and their families was appropriate. Nevertheless, I suggest a more complex approach that includes temporary measures and structural transformations. In the Serenity Haven Counseling Center organization, I would create linkages with schools and healthcare givers in order to have the community and face-to-face counseling not disconnected after a counseling session has been completed. This can be done by teaching mental health as a part of the school curriculum and putting referrals to mental health services into the framework of healthcare in place (Wang et al., 2022). Conversely, at Harmony Outreach Collective Organization, I would endorse advocating for a policy change starting from the local and state levels to improve infrastructure and make mental health resources accessible. This two-pronged approach to treatment can engage both individual needs and the systemic aspects for a sustainable change, resulting in better mental health outcomes for both the youth and their families.

The plan after graduation is to be an individual who rises from proactive participation in change and adopts a transformational leadership style that allows the members to see and feel that things are different. These sets of behaviors correlated with change-oriented behaviors previously examined are innovativeness, vision, and collaborative efforts. I strive to establish a climate that fosters a never-ending discovery and a mechanism of adaptation. My main goal is to make organizations more specialized for tackling social issues affecting youth and families through sustainable solutions that target the root causes of these issues.
