CGI Inc. Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Practices

This paper focuses on why CGI Inc. was selected as one of the best employers in Canada. All the arguments used in this paper are borrowed from the MediaCorp Canada Inc. staff editors (2022) and the company website. Thus, it is essential to understand that the company started as an information technology company in 1976. Later the company was established in some significant places in Canada, like Quebec and Calgary. Nevertheless, the company holds many employers as MediaCorp Canada Inc. staff editors (2022) report shows that there are 10,829 full-time and 1,435 part-time workers.

Some of the reasons they selected the employer to be among the best in the list of Canadian employers is their ability to maintain their diversity dashboard. CGI Inc. shares a transparent demographic report through the dashboard. According to MediaCorp Canada Inc. staff editors (2022), the reports incorporate some facts, like the leaders in the corporation are responsible for some of the activities happening in the company. For instance, their hiring processes, promotion, and retention of talents. For this reason, CGI Inc. has become one of the employers that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in Canada.

Nevertheless, there are other reasons why they selected the company. Another reason is that CGI Inc. has focused its behavior on equity, diversity, and inclusion. In this case, they are in a position to learn new strategic plans through their leaders, considering that they have over 1,000 leaders. According to MediaCorp Canada Inc. staff editors (2022), one of the strategic plans that the company uses is a 12-month program. This program aims to ensure that they create a diverse team representative in the community where they operate. For this reason, the company makes a safe space for its employees and the community in general.

In addition to the above, the employees benefited from the flexible working hours and shortened work weeks. The mission of CGI Inc. is “To help our clients succeed through outstanding quality, competence, and objectivity, providing thought leadership and delivering the best services and solutions to fully satisfy client objectives in information technology, business processes, and management. In all we do, we are guided by our Dream, living by our Values to foster trusted relationships and meet our commitments now and in the future.”

On the other hand, the vision statement for CGI Inc. is stated as “To be a global, world-class end-to-end IT and business consulting services leader helping our clients succeed.” According to CGI Inc. (2022), some of the values of this employer include quality and partnership, integrity, objectivity, respect, sharing, entrepreneurship, and financial strength. Likewise, one of the company’s goals is to ensure accessible communication through the technology that the company creates.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Practices can be essential to employers since they can create different benefits. One of the benefits that CGI Inc. gets is consistent employee performance. If the employees are connected to their workplace, the outcome is always better, creating a sense of belonging. On the other hand, the additional benefit is increased employee teamwork. In this case, the team benefits the company because the employees become mindful of the company. Lastly, the company gets more innovative solutions from its workers. In other words, different people have different qualifications and experience, so creating EDI enhances the company’s practices.

One concept we can relate to CGI Inc. from the class reading is the job performance concept. In this case and from research, the factor of job performance can be viewed as an aspect that originates from three other ideas. For instance, for job performance, the factors of motivation, environment, and ability must be involved (McShane, 2017). Thus, the employer, CGI Inc., is known for creating job performance as they hold their employees at a higher level. However, to ensure that they improve job performance by considering all their employees, then it means that the employer should understand the different needs that their employees need.

Likewise, the other concept that can be gathered from the class reading is the concept of organizational behavior. In this case, organizational behavior creates different institutional factors, like the individuals’ attitudes toward the company and their workplace (McShane, 2017). It is worth noting that having a positive attitude towards work is essential to the business’s success. For instance, if CGI Inc. creates better organizational behavior for the employees, they will create a positive belief, opinion, and a better feeling that enhances the working conditions of the workers.

In conclusion, the main focus of this paper has been to discuss the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Practices as demonstrated by CGI Inc. This paper has given a brief overview of the company and why it selected the employer as one of the best in Canada. One of the reasons is that CGI Inc. has focused its behavior on equity, diversity, and inclusion. Likewise, the paper has considered some of the concepts learned in class that can be connected to the employer: CGI Inc. Some of the concepts discussed include organizational behavior and job performance.
