Apple Manufacturing Process

Summary Of the Evaluation of Control Chart and Process Based on SPC Methods

The control chart helps study the changes that occur from time to time within an organization. Organizations use the control chart to routinely monitor the quality of the product that is produced over a period of time. Due to the increased competition in the market, and the increase in the costs of the operation and raw materials, organizations take control over their operation to experience a competitive advantage. Managers of Apple’s manufacturing process must ensure that they study the changes in their products to monitor the quality of their products and identify the improvements that need to be made to increase sales and reduce operating costs. The use of control chart methods will increase the value of Apple by managers being able to study the changes that occur over time during production and marketing.

Summary: Evaluation of Whether the Process Would Benefit from The Use of Six Sigma, Lean, Or Other Tools.

Apple company needs to use the lean manufacturing system over the other methods for the evaluation process. Lean manufacturing, which entails defining, measuring, analyzing, improving, and controlling, is very important to help achieve quality levels in the production process. Lean was chosen as the best tool because it is concerned with improving efficiency, reducing waste, and adding value. Lean is suited for mass production, and its adoption by the Apple company would benefit its production of products such as iPhones since it is easier to use automation. It will also help Apple in its manufacturing process, such as Apple’s 400-step manufacturing process. The process is extremely from the beginning to the end. The tool entails the document review process. Thus, to ensure flawless, each document that the Apple company engineers generate passes through the document review process giving high-quality products.

The tool will greatly impact the Apple manufacturing process; it will be able to measure the time in which the manufacturing process takes and identify the errors in the current process. There will be close monitoring of the time the engineers handed the documents to the technical writer to the period when the required information is gathered. The implementation of lean manufacturing is necessary since it is a systematic way of reducing waste and errors and creating a flow in the entire production process of the Apple Company process.

Description of the SPC project

Statistical process control (SPC) is a technique that involves the application of statistical analysis in measuring, monitoring, and controlling processes. In the SPC, there is an assumption made about all the processes that they are subject to variation. As a quality control method, the SPC helps to ensure that the process operates efficiently and produces more products that conform with less waste (Abtew et al., 2018). The technique ensures quality data is collected through process measurements from various machines. The collected data is used to evaluate, monitor, and control a process. The use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) helps in establishing a manufacturing process that is controlled by statistical techniques to reduce process variation. Decreasing variation will lead to improved quality and lower operation costs, waste, scrap, and claims.

Recommendation for Improvement

The control chart is the SPC tool used to input all the data gathered. From the increased competition in manufacturing, the high operational costs and high cost of raw materials, companstriving for ongoing quality, efficiency, and cost-cutting improvement can be achieved by adopting the control chart that allows the study of changes in the manufacturing process. Process improvement is achieved implementing Control charts and improvement tools like lean and SPC will enable Apple Company and other businesses to shift away from detection-based quality control and toward prevention-based quality control.
