This reflective analysis focuses on exploring the ethical dimensions of AI-enabled recruiting, drawing insights from the scholarly article by Hunkenschroer and Luetge (2022) titled “Ethics of AI-Enabled Recruiting and Selection: “A Review and Research Agenda” appeared in the January issue of Journal of Business Ethics. This introductory section aims to show how AI-driven recruitment will be a subject of deep reflective analysis of such ethical considerations. This analysis respectively uses the critical thinking skills taught along with the valid sources from the chosen scholarly article to take a deep dive into the real-world consequences of unethical decision-making in AI-enabled recruiting.
Hunkenschroer and Luetge’s 2022 work explores the ethical realms of AI-enabled procurement and personnel selection approaches. They touch upon many ethics topics involving human and algorithmic bias, privacy and consent, compliance, accuracy, validity, transparency, explainability, accountability, and how they impinge upon workforce diversity. These various viewpoints act as a unique platform that utilizes overall analytical procedure. Through critical self-awareness, I strive to develop a holistic view of the world, which I achieve through experience and scholarly research. This blending of perspectives leads to a complex picture of how AI-based recruitment fits into the present ethical paradigm of the workplace, helping to establish an in-depth comprehension of its role in the broader set of contemporary employment practices.
Of the few criteria and roles that AI-enabled recruiting faces, the one of bias, either human or by the algorithm, stands as a critical ethical concern. Hunkenschroer and Luetge (2022) not only provide details about the complex bias influence in AI-driven recruiting but also mention the dual nature of this issue. Though AI enables a deal of equality and uniformity in the process of candidates’ evaluation compared to human bias, this technology, on the other hand, gives birth to the risk of algorithmic bias from incorrect design solutions and biased training data. Conclusively, this reflective analysis has offered a fair assessment of the ethical issues that AI-based recruitment and selection are subject to. Revealing these concepts from the standpoints of my own experience and articles about them, I came to examine the issues of discrimination, privacy, falsification, trustworthiness and accountability in AI-driven recruitment. Looking into the future, enterprises should come up with solutions to these ethical problems through ethically sound and socially responsible AI practices.
