At this point, she was just about to complete her first poetry book when she decided to take on the pseudonym of Bel Hooks, hence beginning a journey that pushed her into the aspects of Black literary and theoretical feminist history. Apart from feminism, Hooks also considered the oppression of Black women and its relationship to the emasculation of Black men. Moreover, Hooks was more interested in intersectionality when she described how race, class, and gender intersect and overlap with one another, creating concerns such as discrimination in employment. Although most of the time she avoided using the term ‘intersectionality’ in itself, her main agenda was to show how feminism and Blackness merged by describing the lived experiences of Black women (Smith, 2022, p. 215). By the idea of intersectionality, she argues that systems of oppression intersect and compound, shaping individual experiences and identities in complex ways.
