“Me to We”

Craig and Marc Kielburger’s book “Me to We “is undoubtedly a very influential piece of writing that has also changed my view on things and altered my ideals and goals. I understand the Kielburgiers’ story as my own and I realized how little things can contribute to a much bigger catalytic outcome. One issue that is significant from the book is the lack of adequate education. The book highlighted how fundamental it is to understand what is essential in life (Kielburger & Kielburger,2009). The book narrates educational stories that have altered the lives of men from all areas and how education helps the communities to be independent and break the vicious cycle of poverty. By considering it this way, education becomes an essential and essential means of people as well as society’s development. Kielburgers’ asserts that the solution to the world’s education crisis lies in turning from a selfish way of thinking to a holistic approach of seeing people around us as members of a community. Therefore, I cannot just talk about education as a mere personal victory but I have to talk of it being a right and all should have the right to adequate, quality education. Also, the rationale behind education does not direct it simply for oneself, but it is also an obligation that we all share.

My motivations to resolve the issue of the global education problem are not limited to my benefits, as some aspects of the “Me to We” philosophy imply. Schooling is a privilege and it means that it is not just about the underserved being served but it is also about fighting for those who have fewer opportunities to get ahead (Jefferess, 2012). Following this book, I desire to transform the intentions of who I become by leaving a footprint that contributes to improving the world, especially in education. My findings are that after I adopted the “Me to We” ideology, I see the signs of value, happiness, and success now through a different lens. The way the book makes me consider the essence of success is that success does not merely imply money investing, but is rather a kind of flawless functionality. It has moved my aims away from regarding me as being individualist centered, and that my accomplishments are community-centered. Before I looked at success as a mere achievement but now when I see my ability to benefit others through the world of education, I just respect my accomplishments as something successful.

However, the Kielburgers demonstrate that it is harder to change from a selfish mind to a mind that is more community-minded than it appears to be. The book acknowledges that the changes someone wants to make to their lives may not align with the norm and that people choose to go a different way from what is customary (Kielburger & Kielburger,2009). In my situation, going down the road that concentrates on helping other people might not even bring me any gains or traditional parameters of success. Nevertheless, the immense likelihood for social transformation becomes evident of what interdisciplinary teams of all the professionals committed to global education crisis solving can do. Such a new approach to the concept allows me to look at my love for education as something more than the actual achievement of my goals. It leads me to focus on any project that allows a more equitable distribution of educational tools. It encourages the development of policies ensuring that all people get access to the right sort of education. This “Me to We” attitude makes me feel like I am a part of something bigger than myself and becoming responsible by making me think about what my goals are, and how my actions can affect the welfare of others.
