For years, there has been high concern about the lessening fish biomass in the worldwide oceans. To examine the main reasons for this reduction, many investigations have been executed to comprehend the scope and the reasons for this deterioration. These studies frequently concentrate on particular fish species, geographical regions, or large worldwide patterns. The literature on this topic suggests that fish biomass has been reported as a serious problem that has been said to attract environmental, economic and social repercussions. Overfishing is one of the main reasons identified to cause fish biomass (Christensen et al., 162). Overfishing occurs when humans fish at a higher rate surpassing their ability to reproduce and fill their populations. It can lead to the destruction of the environment, a decrease in population, and the downfall of ocean fisheries.

This research investigated how fish biomass has evolved over the last 100 years while executing a formerly established methodology using ecological modelling.

The research findings show that the biomass of predatory fish in the globe’s oceans has deteriorated by two-thirds over the last hundred years. To top it up, the decrease has been said to increase by 54 per cent in the last forty years (Christensen et al., 162). Further, the findings indicated that the biomass of prey fish has intensified for the last 100 years, with a high possibility of the case being the release of predation.

The results show that there has been a decrease in the biomass of predatory fish, the big fish that people usually eat. The finding that the decrease had been said to increase with 54 per cent happening in the last forty years means that the deterioration was highly noticed between 1970 and 1990. Since then, it has continued to level off (Christensen et al., 162). However, the state has yet to progress globally; there are no signs of increased predatory fish biomass. The findings showed that there might be signs of upgrading at a regional level, but there needs to be proof of change at a worldwide scope.
(5) What are your opinions? What does this mean to you in the context of this course and your life?
My opinions are that human beings have been fishing more than the reasonable and sustainable amount. As much as other influences, for instance, the destruction of their habitats, water effluence, and alteration of climate, among others, lead to a reduction of fish biomass, overfishing is the most common. Overfishing has had a major impact on the reduction of the population of fish. In return, this has greatly impacted the environment and the economy of the affected countries (Sumaila &Travis,5). This research was helpful because it can help the fisheries departments develop better choices to increase fish conservation and conserve biodiversity. However, it is important to consider that historical information obtainability can differ since gaining correct data for 100 years might be difficult.
