Personal and professional goals

Being fascinated by the medical field from a young age has made me aspire to become a nurse and a midwife. My goal is to help mothers and women quickly access maternal care since the lack of it leads to unnecessary suffering and deaths for millions of women. Maternal health is essential for every expectant mother. I want to ensure that these mothers get the help they need regarding access to care, good mental health jobs and education, among other necessary needs (Martins et al., 2018). My interest in maternal health disparities has also been instrumental in enabling me to decide what profession I can take. Improving the quality of care that mothers and expectant women receive will enhance obstetrics quality and the care delivered to women from racial minorities. Being certified as a midwife nurse will also enable me to reduce mortality rates for minority women.

The role of a registered nurse

Registered nurses keep tabs on the patient’s treatment plan after evaluating and identifying the patient’s needs. Also, they are accountable for ensuring that all patient care is administered in line with the rules and regulations of their workplace, be it a hospital or some other establishment (Murray et al., 2019). I have realized that being a nurse is my most incredible option for helping to reduce the health disparity that occurs among women of different ethnic backgrounds. As a patient advocate, I will also be working to reduce unnecessary fatalities and ensure people have access to the quality medical treatment they need. It will help me achieve my goal of becoming a nurse since the school’s nursing program has other experienced midwives from whom I can learn and from whom I can learn about their state-of-the-art high-tech hospital environments. In addition, I will be able to earn my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in a short time, expanding my capacity to help those in need. As a result of participating in the accelerated program, I will also gain professional activities and build more insights into the subject.

The role of APRN speciality

APRNs are required to treat and diagnose patients, counsel the public on health problems, oversee the management of chronic conditions, and engage in continuous learning to keep up with the latest innovations in their profession. Since I am a capable leader, I hope to use my expertise in the area of medicine that most excite me to help others reach the same goals in terms of patient care that I have achieved (Heinen et al., 2019). Furthermore, my background in clinical practice has provided me with the information and skills necessary to provide excellent care to any patient who seeks my services. Because of my training, I can easily apply the skills and knowledge I have gained to various clinical settings. I am looking forward to getting started on this.

What I plan to do as a Certified Nurse Midwife

As a Certified Nurse Midwife, I will study maternal and infant mortality and the factors affecting the mortality to come up with the necessary solutions. Additionally, I would like to advocate for birth justice, part of a broader movement against reproductive oppression. Through this advocacy, I will help dismantle inequalities of race, class, gender and sexuality (Silva et al., 2020). These inequalities lead to adverse birth experiences for women of colour, low-income women, survivors of violence, immigrant women, and queer and trans folks. I also plan to give my services to women who live in rural areas and have to walk long distances to see an OB-GYN. Trekking to hospitals 30 minutes away can be life-threatening for both mother and child; thus, my help will be much needed in these rural communities to help reduce some of these cases.
