Optimal hospital emergency department (ED) overcrowding supervision remains one of the pivotal problems today in the healthcare arena and should not be undermined in every country. This would cover the strategies planned for a medium-sized community hospital dealing with ED overcrowding with the multidisciplinary approach to satisfy each surrounding practice (Ortíz-Barrios & Alfaro-Saíz, 2020). By involving interdisciplinary specialists` knowledge, our plan aims to upgrade patient care, smooth procedures, and improve the spheres of resources. With this cooperative strategy, we achieve notable improvement in our department’s intangible indicators of outcomes, satisfaction, and efficiency. The introduction lays the foundation upon which an elaborate scientific disciplinary strategy can be maximized, including its goals, objectives, methodology of realization, ways of handling resource sustainability, and standards for evaluation.
Organizational or Patient Issues
The matter in question is the improved number of patients in our emergency departments of a medium-sized community hospital. This issue, beyond the long period of waiting for patients for an appointment, creates a perfect storm in which we cannot give special care to all of them. It is so crucial to handle that problem. Its implications are dynamic and can be seen in patient’s satisfaction and well-being, as well as in those who work in the medical field. At this moment, we want to present an interdisciplinary model that approaches the problem at the root and thus ensures that the patients wait less and that there is a higher quality of service (Tucker et al., 2021). The program benefits patients and the hospital by contributing to the general effectiveness and helping the community stand our hospital higher.
Relevance of an Interdisciplinary Team Approach
The most vigorous and successful solution to our hospital’s emergency department overcrowding issue is an interdisciplinary team approach. In contrast, the team-based approach utilizes the different and unique points of view of experts from various fields, like nursing, medicine, management, and IT, to address and overcome complex problems together. Participation in a team comprising members with diverse skills and knowledge will help us project holistic solutions that match the highly complex problem (Tucker et al., 2021). Medical workers can often share their experience of treatment processes and care with patients. At the same time, administration staff can do the same work but are inclusive of resource management and optimization procedures. IT experts may also introduce solutions that boost workers’ effectiveness by improving inter-departmental communication and data administration.
Moreover, the concept covers the destruction of obstacles that span through interdepartmental interaction with the help of effective information sharing and teamwork across several departments (Zajac et al., 2021). Not only does this cooperation strategy cause performers to be creative and continue growth, but it also simplifies the process. Eventually, the interprofessional team’s multiplication of efforts will lead to better services like shortening the waiting lines, increasing patient satisfaction, utilizing resources, and patient flow, all under the mission of providing timely and high-quality patient care to our community.
Interdisciplinary Plan Summary
Our multipronged plan involves creating a system that enables the patients to have shorter waiting times, provides the opportunity to exchange operational information, and ensures the appropriate use of resources. We aim to increase the effectiveness of treatment and the patients’ happiness by ensuring that all medical personnel from various specializations perform well. We will also form a collaborative team to help with the exact procedures and a quicker pace in the treatment process. Our strategy is based on proven evidence that contributes to our interdisciplinary team’s resourcefulness in collaborating to find a solution, thus giving us a chance of success. The team will probe the existing procedures by applying the latest advancements, finding and pointing out the drawbacks, and providing a bespoke treatment to deal with any particular issues (Tucker et al., 2021). This is done through reengineering patient flow services, installing new communication platforms, and adjusting labor requirements to the patient surge demand trend.
Implementation and Resource Management
It is necessary to plan and coordinate correctly to fulfill the strategy and eliminate any defective employment of resources or waste. The multispectral team will analyze the actual flow of resources and determine the weak spots. For instance, some kinds of staff could be relocated to areas that need additional assistance with patients and buy technology with equipment that allows for better service delivery. The performance and productivity of staff could be boosted by purposefully conducting training courses. Strict observation and evaluation of the leading business indicators, such as patient wait times, resource consumption rates, and patient satisfaction ratings, are excellent ways to prevent resource management in the healthcare sector (Zajac et al., 2021). However, the strategy also underlines the advantages of reducing hospital overcrowding in the long term, for which the expenditure of resources is well justified. The hospital will reduce the cost of extended stays, unwanted events, and patient dissatisfaction by improving patient flow and satisfaction. Using tools that can make the operations more accessible and effective not only helps boost the employees’ motivation and productivity but also enhances the effectiveness of the whole department.
Evaluation
As evidenced by implementing many world-class emergency department services, the research would have been effective. Patient waits that will become drastically shorter would mean efficient patient procedures through lines and faster access to the required services. Improved positive feedback will also show better positions and opinions regarding the care given. Proper allocation of resources, including staffing and machinery, would help save costs and ensure the facility runs at full force, reducing wastage (Ortíz-Barrios & Alfaro-Saíz, 2020). Further, inter-departmental cooperation and coordination in their communication will produce effective outcomes through advanced care coordination and simplification of the process. Data tracking would consist of several indicators, for example, patient polls, resource usage rates, departmental email traffic, and wait times, to evaluate the outcome of the transition. The success achieved might be confirmed by comparing pre- and post-implementation data, as is the case of the interdisciplinary plan, which has concrete pieces of evidence on which it is based and the points it addresses.
Conclusion
Employing the interdisciplinary approach shows the excellent chances of eradicating the shortcomings of our ED for our hospital. Through joint efforts of healthcare workers from different disciplines, our collective aim is to ensure maximum use of resources and work with patients to attain the best outcomes and the quickest turnover of patients. All these are part of our massive plan involving best-of-breed scheduling processes, innovative use of resources, and continuous oversight. The expected results from following this plan include outstanding patient outcomes, satisfaction, and departmental efficiency. Alongside these particular patients, our success in this project will boost confidence in our institution within the community. We are eager to deliver care at a premium level and create a center where innovation and excellence meet.
