Visual and Performance of the House of the Spirit

The paper discusses the House of the spirit a video which is composed by Isabel Allende. Isabel Allende explores the several meanings and history regarding the present. The play is the most prominent in the 20th century in Latin America unnamed country, during unrest in the world. The novel explores the aspects of the untold story, which is cylindrical, examining how history gives life and reclaims the past. The novel uses several elements of the art in the movie, elaborating adventures that traverse decades and lives, altering the individual and the political into an epic story of affection, destiny, and enhancement. The author depicts both the tragedies and the triumph of the family. The element of the art are presented in the novel. These elements include m color, line, texture, line, shape and form. The author introduces the House of Spirits in a radical, magical realism concerning love, hate, deceit, betrayal and more so explores love, hate, suspicion, disloyalty, and family. The story elaborates the family over four generations. The author introduces Clara, a character with extraordinary abilities such as magic powers and predicting the future.

The second piece of art introduces a sculpture “The Bird in space” made by constantan Brancusi. The work of the art that was made up of marble in 1923. The sculpture was made in France Europe and is currently found in modern and contemporary art. The work represents a portion of a series of sculptures of birds named birds in the space, with seven of them being carved with marble, the rest carved with bronze. The author Constantin Brancusi captures the sense of the movement using the simplest form of shapes. The element of texture in the art is portrayed in work, with the smoothness of stone being added to the flight of a bird.

The author Isabela Allende explores the meaning of history and modern life through visual components of art in depicting life. The unofficial, vocal history is one feature of history that is examined. The author presents a counter-history to the ‘official’ military history. The ants are introduced going to the chicken coops, thus eating the hens alive which is based on a metaphor. The ants are a metaphor for the military regime’s takeover of the state by force and overthrow of the people. The author uses this form to depict individual’s hardship as they are being eaten alive to convey their lack of freedom and horror. This is in stark contrast to the military’s ‘official’ history, which portrays them as heroes and imposes rigorous suppression to prevent anyone from speaking out against their government. Isabel Allende also explores into the lives of ordinary people, particularly those from the lowest classes. When the peasants remark Esteban Trueba, “the peasants concealed their daughters and clutched their hands helplessly,” visual imagery comes to mind (I. Allende N.p). The visual imagery depicts their horror of Esteban’s multiple rapes and how individuals of lesser social position were impotent in the face of those of higher status. It underlines the inequalities that persons from lower socioeconomic classes face and provides them a voice in a story where their social status would generally prevent them from speaking up. This is because the upper class and the corrupt military leadership write the nation’s history. It demonstrates the marginalized voice in society and that history is not just about famous historical personalities and events but also about the people who lived through them and shaped the people and events into what they are remembered for today. The novel also gives individuals who have been oppressed a voice by presenting a side of history that is frequently ignored and underdeveloped.

The novel uses a cyclical aspect throughout the story. This aspect of history’s cyclical character is also explored in the novel. In the future, an injustice committed in the past will be avenged. Esteban is shown rapping Pancha Garcia through attacking her violently.” We are able to see Pancha’s rape thanks to the usage of the word ‘savagely,’ which implies that Esteban treated her less like a human and more like an animal. This is extremely important for us to see in today’s society, where rape and sexual assault are considered among the worst crimes that can be committed. Nevertheless, Pancha’s grandson avenges his grandmother by rapping Esteban’s granddaughter a few generations later. Esteban Garcia’s retaliation against Alba was described as plunging her head into a bucket full of filth till she fainted from revulsion (Allende N.p). Esteban Garcia attempted to “avenge himself for injuries that had been perpetrated on him from birth” as history repeats itself. The visual image represents the pain she is experiencing as a result of previous generations’ sins constantly reminding her. The cyclical nature of history demonstrates how Esteban Garcia is replicating previous errors and is likely to suffer the same repercussions ahead. Not only past sins, but also previous acts of goodwill, are repaid in the future. When Transito Soto was a low income prostitute, Esteban assisted her out through giving her the fifty pesos since that day he had sold 5 bulls despite his pocket being full of bills,” as shown when he “gave her the fifty pesos since that day he had sold five bulls and his pockets were full of bills.” since he had a lot of changes, Esteban had not given much attention to his giving, but history repeats itself. Esteban’s charity will be fully returned. When Transito states that life is “full of unexpected twists,” she is implying that Esteban’s life will take a turn for the worse. The fact that she says they will see each other means that Transito will be there to assist Esteban and that the favor he has given in the past will be brought back in the future. Every generation needs to learn from the previous one to gather knowledge of history and avoid repeating past mistakes.

The piece sculpture elaborating the bird on space uses several elements of art. One of which is the shape. The work applies imagery since one thinks transforming to a bird in flight, having wings (Brancusi N.P). The use of marble portrays texture elements and color. The texture of the art is non-Foliated, which is coarse-grained. The work uses white color for visualization.

Conclusively both artworks use different elements of art. The House of spirits is presented by Isabel Allende, who explores several meanings and history. He uses imagery in depicting the various aspects of art such as shape, form, texture and component of the color. The second work is the sculpture presenting birds in the space. The presenter Constantin Brancusi presents the different movements of using the shape related to the bird.
