Television is a telecommunication medium used to transmit audio and video. It is a mass medium for entertainment, news, advertising, and sports. The television set has become a standard item in every household, institution, business place, and on transportation vehicles. Television is divided into three main fields: television broadcasting, TV production, which produces licensed programs or cable networks, and internet publishing and broadcasting, which focuses on video-on-demand services only. Tv broadcasters operate in studios and facilities that work and deliver audiovisual content to the public, transmitting over the air. The type of programs offered can be made by either the affiliates outside the industry or by the broadcasters. Satellite TVs and cables are excluded in this category as those that provide only online content. This essay analyzes the Television, audio streaming, and interactive media industries.
Television broadcast was innovated in the 1950s and 1960s and spread worldwide. Television was first introduced in India on 15th September 1959, and since then, the industry has experienced advanced transformation in terms of time and technology. In modern culture, Television is one of the unavoidable forms of technology since people depend on it for education, culture, weather, news, music, and entertainment. Television also acts as a medium for connecting people all over the world (Morgan,2022). Television has two significant strengths: the ability to connect and reach a large number of nautical audiences virtually and instantly and the ability to combine sound, motion, and sight. Television has improved interactive social time as before the internet, family members and friends gathered in one particular place and watched as they connected and interacted. Apart from having all those advantages and importance to society, there are still some disadvantages it brings to the community. It reduces family time as people spend more time watching other than conversing and catching up with their loved ones. It still impacts children’s performance in school. Children should be given only four hours as their screen time and use the other time with school work. Too much addiction to the screen and tv shows takes away your concentration on other things, especially when it’s time to watch your favorite show and you are busy handling other things, such as class work, which fails (Gollust &niederdeppe,2019). The advertisements on the TV encourage the demand for more material possession, which affects your budget since people tend to go out of their budget to get a product they don’t need simply because they saw a TV advert. It can lead to obesity because it discourages exercise.
There are several current trends in the television and video streaming industries. On the production side, showrunners have been given the role of producers. With the rise of distribution channels, production companies have been taking the showrunners to play the role of producers to fill the gap in the companies and make the shows a hit. This is a disadvantage to society and the world since there are no more chances for the upcoming producers, leaving so many graduates hustling for opportunities to show their talents. If the chances are given to only experienced producers, how about those that want to gain the experience? It’s time for the production companies to avoid that and grow other talents for the industry and community to grow (Gollust &niederdeppe,2019). Another trend is significant media dominance, where the big and known media companies try to dominate the other developing media stations leaving no chance for them to gain formality and grow. The famous TV stations and the management should take the initiative to promote the upcoming stations for growth.
The Television and video streaming industries face several challenges. One of the challenges affecting the sector significantly is the increased rate of audience fragmentation. Due to the increased number of new stations, the audience is mainly split into different new channels. Another challenge is digital piracy. The increased use of digital technology eases the increase of illegal copying and the spread of copyrighted materials, affecting industry revenue (Morgan,2022). Most TV stations and networks work requires more technical and experienced personnel. The new and emerging television stations tend to give low wages for the latest entry broadcasters targeting the larger markets for career advancement. They have no choice but to accept since the more prominent and established companies need more qualified and experienced employees.
Several solutions can be made to solve the challenges facing the Tv industry in the industry, broadcasting, and production and on the side of the audience. Audio fragmentation is one of the significant issues affecting the industry (Burroughs,2019). To solve it, the broadcasters need to make sure they come up with new and pleasing shows that will capture the audience’s attention and make them stick to the show. By the time the show ends, the broadcaster should ensure that they leave at a point where the audience will eagerly await the continuation.
In conclusion, the Television and video streaming industries have faced several challenges. Still, there are solutions to the challenges, and that’s why it has been running for over seventy years and is still relevant today. In today’s world, Television is a basic need for every homestead. Those that are not in possession of one are termed as poor in society. there should be an interactive session with the audience so that the audience can give their views on shows and maybe what they would like to be aired on the air and by this, the decision-making and the choice of the shows will be favorable to the audience. Television has remained the media mainstream leading in news, sports, entertainment, and music. The most effective way to solve the challenges is by staying relevant and changing the shows as per the generation to suit the targeted audience. Staying relevant helps the industry stay competitive, as the audience will still make it their favorite. The hosts should as well reduce the timing of the commercial adverts to avoid making the audience bored.
