Another limitation of conventional speed limits is their impact on transportation efficiency and economic productivity. The orderly application of low-speed limits in major highways, arteries, and rail lines alike can cause time wastage and efficiency loss in the transportation sector. This in turn results in increased travel times and rises in petrol consumption, hence environmental pollution. Subsequently, this leads us to a situation in which choices have to be made between the considerations of safety on the one hand and the carefree transportation of the people and commodities on the other hand. As an example, variable speed limits are set according to traffic intensity at any determined time, and systems such as adaptive cruise control will help in this regard to maximize traffic flow as well as minimize the accident risk.

In conclusion, it should be emphasized that although speed limits are vital in ensuring road safety, the need to reassess these former approaches arises from limitations inherent in such limits. A mass transit plan that takes the needs of the traffic seriously and is more comprehensive than the old model by including the latest efficiency and safety measures is imperative. Instead of the old speed limit regime using a strict approach, new transport regulatory strategies to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow, and promote economic productivity through a more comprehensive approach should be incorporated. Still, the aim should be creating a transportation system that puts people’s safety first and excludes traffic jams and environmental damage, contributing to a pleasurable experience for everybody driving.
