“The Stone Breakers” and “The Gleaners’

“The Stone Breakers” by Gemaldegalerie Dresden and the “The Gleaners’” by Jean-François Millet is one of the influential pieces of work created in the 19th century showing the harsh realities of labor. The stone breaker showed two men who were seen breaking and removing the stone from a particular road being built. Two workers in “The Stone Breakers” do backbreaking labor, emphasizing their plight and obscurity. The composition’s gloomy tone highlights their difficult circumstances (Artincontex,2022). Courbet placed a strong focus on reality and the social cost of industrialization. On the other hand, “The Greener,” which shows the two women collecting leftover crops from a particular field, indicates their resilience and resourcefulness. The Millet appears more sympathetic, having tonnes and some sense of dignity in labor. The two paintings indicated the significance of rural labor and how it was connected to nature. While the two types of art depict the struggles, the working class experienced, “The Stone Breakers” shows a hopeless portrayal. On the other hand, “The Gleaners” indicates the celebration and resilience of the rural workers.

Another key difference is the style and the techniques. Courbet was a subject of the realism movement and aimed at capturing the raw reality of his art subjects; he used a color palette and employed a thick and rough brushstroke which portrayed a sense of the texture of the worker environment. On the other hand, Jean-Francois Millet’s artwork used a more sentimental technique, featuring soft tones and precise brushwork (Harris & Zucker., 2023). His image is more detailed, showing some connection between the land and the laborers.

La Grande Odalisque and Manet’s “Olympia”

La Grande Odalisque is one of the oil paintings created by Jean Auguste Dominique in 1814, showing concubine ingress breaking from Neoclassicism. This showed a complete shift of Romanticism. La Grande Odalisque’s body faces away from the viewer. The Ingres image can be termed to be Turkish, which emphasizes beauty. The odalisque’s twisted back and exaggerated proportions deviate from anatomical reality, adding to its otherworldly charm. The artwork celebrates the artist’s talent and the viewer’s yearning while evoking a vision of the exotic.

On the other hand, Olympia, an art from Manet, shows a nude woman who is brought flowers. Manet used a naked painting that used a clair obscure approach having soft and blurred lines, and therefore her reasonable skin faded slowly to a dark background (Mulot et al.,2022). From the image, her eyes were very closed, which portrayed an aura of innocence.

Unlike La Grande Odalisque, which portrayed romantic fascination with some exotic orient, Olympia, on the other hand, challenges the previous academic traditions through the confrontation nude. She shows no shyness as she casts a disinterested gaze at the audience. Even this seemingly slight shift in focus is essential compared to the numerous nudes. Another difference is that Manet’s work has fewer details than Ingres, who reflects on the issue of realism. Manet rejects the audacity and the notion of beauty. However, the image is said to portray prostitution.

“A philosopher lecturing on Orrery” is one of the extraordinary paintings created by Joseph Wright, who was among the British artists in the 18th century. Wright’s unique technique and subject matter are fully displayed in this masterwork. Wright’s other well-known picture, “An Experiment on a Bird in an Air Pump,” provides a valuable contrast revealing numerous striking elements supporting the identification. One similarity between the two pictures is that both help understand Wright’s fascination with Enlightenment and its scientific discoveries. The Fire of the Houses of Parliament in London

Joseph Turner, one of the famous British artists, founded the “The Fire of the Houses of Parliament in London.” His artwork demonstrates that he was one of the best artists. Another well-known work is “The Fighting Temeraire, “In “The Fire of the Houses of Parliament in London, 1835,” the artist used bold brushstrokes and vivid colors to depict the chaos and damage caused by the blaze that consumed the historic building in question. The Child’s Bath

The Child Bath is one of the paintings by Mary Cassatt, who was also an American painter who was also associated with the Impressionist movement. Mary is also known for the Mother and Child. When comparing the two artworks, it can be deduced that Cassatt’s skill in depicting tender moments between moms and their young children. As the touching relationship between mother and child is exhibited in “Mother and Child,” the mother and child’s bath time interaction in “The Child’s Bath” is shown with remarkable sensitivity and compassion (Harris,2008). These personal depictions of motherly love and the connection between parents and their kids often recur throughout Cassatt’s oeuvre.

On the same, it can be observed that in both of his painting Cassatt’s, he had a great skill of mastering expressions and gestures. When looking at ‘Child Bath,” Calmness and reflection are communicated via the child’s thoughtful expression and the mother’s soft touch. A similar moment of sensitivity and devotion is captured in “Mother and Child,” when the child’s hug and the mother’s admiring gaze lock in on each other.
