I would also say that by adhering to Elkington’s framework for sustainability and implementing the stages of rejection-to-regeneration, Texas Roadhouse is able to speed up its journey toward sustainability and positive change within the industry, for all these will make it a top-ranked business in sustainable dining practices.

To achieve this, they need to come up with sustainable menu choices and better customer engagement activities (Shim, Jimin, et al., 2131). To efficiently tackle the challenge of consumer awareness and demand, the company must carry out marketing campaigns, innovate its menus, and implement functioning customer feedback mechanisms.

Opportunities

Operational Efficiency

There is room for Texas Roadhouse to improve its operational efficiency through optimized resource use, minimized waste, and lower costs. Techniques like having energy and conserving water conservation measures with waste reduction programs will also improve its cost savings and operational performance and not just environmental impact (Larson et al. 8).

Conducting a detailed and efficient SWOT and PESTLE analysis while engaging various stakeholders smoothens the company’s way towards sustainability.

Company- Supplier collaboration is an excellent strategy to solve supply chain problems. Collaborating with the suppliers is also effective in improving transparency and sustainability practices within the dynamic supply chain in which Texas Roadhouse operates (Chiu and Chia 532). The application of sustainability criteria for suppliers, regular auditing, and strategic partnerships established based on shared values are critical drivers of supply chain sustainability.

Employee training and engagement practices, such as engaging staff in sustainability activities, bring a culture of environmental responsibility to Texas Roadhouse. Especially when the employees’ sustainability efforts are recognized and rewarded, proper empowerment and engagement of employees in sustainable initiatives can propel the company to its aim of internal engagement and innovation.

In this part, I will look into how Texas Roadhouse is able to manoeuvre the ethical and sustainable decision-making processes. I will focus on various factors like the interest of shareholders, labour practices, and impacts on the environment. I will also assess the company’s mode of balancing profit incentives with equity concerns and then give recommendations to help the company’s decisions to effectively comply with the existing ethical values.

Ethical Considerations

Shareholder Interests

Striking a balance between the interests of shareholders and diverse societal concerns is an ethical challenge to Texas Roadhouse, as portrayed in my quizzes and conversations with some of the company’s staff. Even with prioritizing shareholder values as a primary focus, the company also needs to factor in the effects of its decisions on employees, customers, and the community. According to (Sebastiani et al. 475), ethical decision-making entails weighing short-term financial gains against long-term sustainability. It also emphasizes the need for a more robust social responsibility of the business.

Hiring employees, training them, providing compensation, and creating a secure and inclusive work environment for all are some of the ethical standards that Texas Roadhouse should adhere to. This is an essential area of ethical concern, just as (Kibert et al. et al. 250) argue that ethical decision-making in labor practices covers prioritizing workers’ welfare and creating a culture of respect and equality where the company is required to address any issues of discrimination and harassment.

Environmental Impact

Taking complete control of a company’s environmental impact resulting from its operations, like reducing its carbon emissions to promote sustainability, remains an essential ethical consideration for Texas Roadhouse Company in the food industry. The company must drastically reduce its environmental harm and increase conservation efforts. These can be realized by examining its resource consumption, rate of waste generation, and greenhouse gas emissions (Forster and Alexandra 6). For better ethical decision-making regarding environmental impact, practices that are environmentally friendly must be employed, primarily investing in renewable sources of energy.

Sustainable Decision-Making

Profit Incentives vs. Equity Concerns

Adhering to profit incentives and equity concerns to balance financial performance with social and environmental responsibility are among the challenges that Texas Roadhouse experiences in its restaurant businesses. The company is able to provide long-term value for stakeholders and advocate for a more sustainable future in the food industry. This is feasible especially by having sustainability in its decision-making processes.

Community engagement is beneficial to both employees and local communities as it gives them a sense of pride and belonging (Ramachandra et al. 595). Proper engagement also brings out a receptive work environment and boosts the morale of employees. By aligning sustainability efforts with community needs, Texas Roadhouse can create shared value for both employees and local residents, contributing to social cohesion and sustainable development.

Having sustainable operations in its larger supply chain, the company is able to reduce the impacts of environmental degradation and come up with economic opportunities for local stakeholders, resulting in the overall well-being of the local community around its steak restaurants.

Stance

The debate is about whether we should effect radical changes in socio-political and economic structures to achieve sustainability or if changing business models can drive us to sustainability in the world without strict regulations. I take a position by arguing that transforming capitalism is very significant for sustainable development rather than doing away with it. Chouinard and Elkington are all against banning capitalism as they stress the need for a newly thought-out and more sustainable form of capitalism. A new capitalism that puts forward environmental and social responsibility accompanied by economic growth. My position goes with the notion that though sustainable business practices lead to positive change, there is still a need for changes in the systems to handle the root causes of unsustainability.

I support the position I hold regarding Chouinard and Elkington’s call for a more sustainable form of capitalism involving the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profit. The two scholars outline the need for various businesses to implement sustainability in their operations, combat environmental challenges, and promote social responsibility.

Elkington argues that despite businesses performing a key role in promoting sustainability activities, there must be changes in the system to handle the more immense socio-political and economic challenges that hinder sustainable development (Elkington 98). This is because solely depending on voluntary corporate responsibility practices is not enough to help realize the long-term sustainability goals.

I also advocate for strict adherence to the existing regulations. This is because even if businesses decide to voluntarily take action to spearhead this change, regulatory frameworks are still vital for accountability and proper enforcement of sustainability standards in various industries (Ostrom and Elinor, 355). In the absence of regulations, many businesses will focus on short-term profits over long-term sustainability, and this can result in severe environmental degradation and social inequalities.

I fully agree with the study by (Ostrom, 645) that shows the need to have a mixture of regulatory mechanisms. This mixture, which consists of market-based incentives and government interventions to deal with complex sustainability challenges, can be more effective because it establishes a safer environment for sustainable business practices.

There must also be a balance between social and environmental goals with the intention of achieving huge profits. Currently, capitalism is majorly about maximizing profit at the expense of environmental conservation and social justice (Roszkowska-Menkes and Maria, 87). I contend that there is a need to redefine the purpose of capitalism so that businesses can fully achieve sustainability by balancing economic interests with social and environmental goals.

The emphasis for businesses to create value for society as they generate profits, as outlined in the concept of “shared value” proposed by (Porter and Kramer 123), is really crucial in the journey toward sustainability. With this concept, it is true to say that creating a shared value for society as businesses make a profit complies with the urge to transform capitalism to serve the interests of all stakeholders and not just shareholders.

Conclusion

For the full realization of sustainability at Texas Roadhouse, there must be a complete technique for transparency, goal setting, worker empowerment, and collaboration in the entire company’s businesses. To achieve positive change, the company needs to instill a culture of sustainability through accountability, innovation, and ethical conduct among its employees and the public. Doing this will help Texas Roadhouse further its sustainability agenda and motivate its employees and the communities it serves to join hands in the drive. The company should also engage in practices like collaboration and display consistent progress, which are critical pillars for having a more sustainable and ethical business model.

I also emphasize my stance that even when a change of business models and adherence to the existing labor laws is able to propel us to sustainability, there is still a need for a transformed capitalism. It is through transformed capitalism that we will be able to solve the systemic problems that deter us from realizing a fully sustainable world. This transformation of capitalism will also help businesses move towards having a more sustainable world through the concept of shared value. The analysis has also found that proper regulations and better corporate responsibility are vital for making the desire to have a balance between economic prosperity and sustainable practices become a reality.
