Interactions among psychological, social, and behavioral factors strongly influence health. These interactions happen over time and as a person develops. Another example is the effects of diet and exercise on obesity, which is a severe risk factor for many diseases, including diabetes and heart disease. Even though obesity is rising across all socioeconomic and demographic groups throughout the United States, certain sociocultural factors, such as education, gender, ethnic background, and socioeconomic status, affect the incidence of these conditions (Nutbeam & Lloyd, 2021). The prevalence of childhood obesity among teenagers is also rising, and since it frequently extends into adulthood, it raises the risk of developing chronic diseases in later years. The reality that comparatively few Americans engage in regular exercise is a factor in this situation. Additionally, more people eat outside the home with more significant quantities of relatively high-fat and calorie foods (Pellmar et al., 2020 ). The above examples show that behavior impacts health, whether directly or indirectly.

Behaviors determine the kind of lifestyle, which in turn influences health. It is the kind of food we do or pressures that people expose themselves to that determine the health of individuals. Such behavioral patterns as enmity or aggressive behavior can raise the probability of injury or disease, whereas conciliation and cooperation can decrease it. Negative health results are significantly predicted by health-related behaviors like lack of physical activity, low vegetable and fruit intake, smoking, drinking, and insufficient sleep (Nutbeam & Lloyd, 2021). Although research indicates that health-related behaviors frequently co-occur, strategies for health promotion frequently concentrate on just one behavior.

How The Relationship Between Behavior and Health Affects Social Determinants of Health

This link between behavior and health tends to significantly affect social determinants of health. Some behaviors have a significant impact on social determinants of health. The relationship can impact the social determinants of health by triggering awareness about factors that affect health. This will enable them to decide whether to alter or eliminate certain social conditions, poverty, and ignorance. By restricting patients’ access to essential health and lifestyle resources, various social determinants of health impact patient wellness. When people are aware that certain behaviors have a significantly negative impact, they may try to avoid them by altering their lifestyle (Pellmar et al., 2019). Some people might raise their incomescess to more wholesome foods and even healthcare services (Nutbeam & Lloyd, 2021). This shows that the relationship can significantly influence the social determinants of health. Community understanding of the relationship between health and behavior can help individuals identify some of the triggers of poor health outcomes caused by personal life choices and make a choice to change them. This will, in turn, have an impact on determinants of health that are within the level of personal control.
