It is thought that uniqueness comes from the genetic component of the human body and reflects on people through their actions. Films have been used in the past to explore human personalities. The film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” explores personalities by using the characters within the film to display different personalities.
Summary
“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” is an exciting film that explores the estranged relationship between human relationships and the nature of memory (Gondry, 2011). The film builds around Joel Barish and Clementine Kruczynski. The two main characters notice that they have undergone surgery and that their memories have been wiped off after a painful break-up they had. The relationship between Joel and Clementine is perceived as tough, as evidenced by the resilience of park technology. Despite the separation, Joel and Clementine are attracted to each other and soon find each other in the comfort of each other’s arms as lovers. The personality card derived from this summary deduces that despite the change and erasure of memory, the attraction within each patient by then was too strong to break, thus creating a complex relationship.

Personality Analysis
“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” envisions several traits within its characters. Joel Barish, for instance, is an introvert and displays a preservative model of traits in the film. The character struggles with his social life and is often on the verge of anxiety, especially when exposed to social situations (Newman and Newman, 2022). Joel struggles with social isolation, fear and vulnerability throughout the film, traits associated better with high neuroticism levels. Looking at Joels’trait through a psychoanalytic lens showcases his development of a defence mechanism for social exposure. Joel’s decision to undergo surgery to forget most of his past is inspired by Joel himself, but it is due to peer pressure from Clementine, who does the same to forget Joel.
Clementine exhibits a highly spirited trait and an active self that is opposite to what Joel is and has been throughout the film. She exhibits a high spirit despite her challenges in the relationship, reflecting high levels of humanistic psychology. The characters of the two persons can be better understood by looking at the tenets of social-cognitive theory, which considers their interactions with each other in relation to their environment. The interplay of functions between the characteristics of Joel and Clementine dictates an analysis of the interpersonal relationship between the two persons and the catalysts that inspire growth and self-discovery within the characters.
