Introduction
Providing compassionate care, assistance, and advocacy to people, families, and communities during their times of vulnerability strikes me as a great job. It is a holistic strategy that covers physical care and needs in emotion, psychology, and religion. As I near the end of my nursing program, I have dramatically changed my perspective on nursing from when I initially began. The notion of human caring developed by nursing theorist Jean Watson has significantly influenced my nursing philosophy. This concept will work as the cornerstone of my nursing career, setting me apart from other nurses by directing the care I give to my patients.
Conceptualization of Nursing
Nursing combines art and science, combining empathy and sincere connection with evidence-based practice. It entails sustaining kindness, compassion, and respect while continuously pursuing knowledge, honing clinical abilities, and embracing technological improvements (Watson, 2022). Building trusting connections with patients, respecting their uniqueness, and incorporating them in care decisions are all critical aspects of nursing.
Evolution of My View of Nursing
My perspective on nursing has substantially changed throughout my nursing program. At first, I thought of nursing as carrying out prescriptions and giving physical care. However, I now realize that nursing goes beyond just performing chores thanks to schooling, practical experiences, and exposure to many nursing ideas. Understanding each patient’s individuality, cultural background, and values is essential (Watson, 2022). I have discovered that being a nurse needs critical thinking, excellent communication, and patient rights advocacy.
Impact of My Nursing Philosophy on Patient Care
Placing my patients at the center of the care process will be guided by my nursing philosophy when providing care for them. I will build a therapeutic nurse-patient connection built on open communication and trust. I will highlight the value of the nurse’s presence and the therapeutic potential of genuine care by drawing on Jean Watson’s theory of human caring (Vega & Hayes, 2019). I will be sensitive to my patients’ emotional needs through active listening and empathy and give them holistic care that enhances their well-being.
Health and Illness Definitions
My definition of health includes a condition of mental, emotional, and social stability in addition to the absence of disease. It entails achieving balance in one’s body, mind, and spirit. Contrarily, illness causes a disturbance in this equilibrium and impairs a person’s ability to function and quality of life (Vega & Hayes, 2019). Through thorough care, instruction, and support, I, as a nurse, see my responsibility as helping restore this balance.
Influence of Jean Watson’s Theory on My Nursing Philosophy
Jean Watson’s theory of human care has significantly impacted my nursing philosophy. I can relate to her emphasis on the personal relationship between the nurse and the patient. According to Watson’s idea, it is critical to comprehend each patient’s circumstances, demonstrate empathy, and treat them with decency and respect. This is consistent with my conviction that genuine compassion and presence can encourage healing and well-being.
Articulating My Nursing Philosophy
My nursing approach is based on providing compassionate care and developing deep relationships with patients. I can offer my patients’ tailored care that fosters healing and restores well-being if I fully comprehend and acknowledge their emotions, beliefs, and requirements. My philosophy sets me apart from my peers because I greatly emphasize the human side of nursing. It will be evident in how I deal with and care for patients.
Conclusion
Being a nurse means providing care, support, and advocacy in a caring and comprehensive manner to individuals in need. Throughout my nursing education, my perspective on nursing changed, and today Jean Watson’s philosophy of human caring significantly impacts it. The significance of developing sincere relationships with patients, providing comprehensive care, and appreciating each person’s individuality are all emphasized in my nursing philosophy. I hope to positively affect my patients’ lives and contribute to their general well-being by adopting this idea into my practice.
