Personal Code of Ethics

Aristotle, for many reasons, said selfishness does not consist in self-love, but rather in a monumental of such love. Excellence is a skill acquired by practice and repetition, and we do not act correctly because we possess virtue or excellence; instead, we do so because we have performed correctly in the past. Excellence is not an act but a habit, and we are what we repeatedly do. A code of ethics is a set of guidelines for social workers’ professional conduct and language addressing the importance of professional self-care. All persons are eligible for informed consent, which is the go-ahead in performing a patient’s test with the doctors thorough explanation on the purpose. This paper seeks to give a preamble review of the Code of ethics of informed consent and describe my Code of ethics, like trustworthiness, excellence, openness, curiosity, commitment, and honesty, and how they will be used in a counseling environment.

The preamble of the Code of ethics discusses the purpose of the social works and the vital values. Core values are the foundation of a social worker’s particular purpose and perception and have been taken in by social workers throughout their history. Service, social justice, the importance of human relationships, honesty, and competence are among these values (Gheradi et al., 2017). This set of fundamental beliefs exemplifies what makes social work so unique. The effectiveness of work activities and programs depends on these critical beliefs. They are the moral basis for an organization and explain the ethical ideas utilized to define professional standards and govern work activities. These codes assist help in identifying professional responsibilities and arising conflicts of interest. The guidelines serve as standards against which workers can be held accountable. Secondly is the purpose of the Code of ethics. The Code highlights the fundamental values that underpin social work’s mission, presents general ethical principles that reflect those values, and establishes a set of particular ethical standards to guide social work practice. The Code assists workers in identifying various considerations when ethical uncertainties arise, as well as to socialize newcomers to the field to social work targets, values, ethical rules, and outstanding standards, and to encourage all public workers to engage in personal care, continuing education, among other activities.

Similarly, Ethical Concepts outlines various ethical principles that inform public workers and are founded on social core ideals. Making ethical decisions is a great procedure. When conflicting works develop, workers may be confronted with compounded ethical challenges without clear solutions(Hothersal et al.,2018). This Code’s values and standards should be considered whenever there is need for judgement on ethics. The purpose of this Code is to guide workers’ judgments in everything they do. Ethics principles, in general, include public work theory, researching, laws, mandate, agent rules, and other needed codes of ethics should all be considered by workers. Public workers should be careful of the effect of their agents, values, cultural and religious beliefs, and activities on making of decisions in regard to ethics. They should know of conflicts between personal and professional ideals and how to adress them. Public workers need to research related ideas on professional ethics and making of decisions on ethics for variety of information and look for appropriate advice when faced with ethical problems. This includes talking with the ethics committee of a social work organization, a regulatory group, qualified coworkers, leaders, or legal committee. Specific standards to govern workers’ actions and give a foundation for adjudication are part of Ethical Standards. For effective and ethical work practice, professional personal care is essential. Public workers must maintain their health, safety, and integrity in demanding work environments and exposure to trauma(Dima et al., 2021).

Among the significant ideologies of research based on ethics is informed consent. It intends to motivate human well-wishers to join a test voluntarily after completely getting information on the need to participate and agree before doing so. Consent is asked for before a potential enters the program, and there should be no pressure on people to consent. The person must comprehend the test and consent to as a minimal need for informed consent. The person considers the material provided; they are not under any obligation to react to the researcher right away, and then the person repeats the terms of the test, typically in distinct sections. Before accepting to participate in the entire test, the person must agree to each term. The required consent has been acquired. One will be requested to give a specific agreement for more invasive treatments with considerable risks or other available options. There are various exclusions to the rule of informed consent in specific cases, such as in an emergency where medical care is required promptly to avert significant or irreparable harm and when someone is unable to grant permission for testing or treatment. In children, informed consent has limited application. Children may have adequate decision-making competence, but they solely are legalized by the authority to offer consent(Folprecht et al., 2016). Hence parents or immediate guardians may grant consent for a child’s testing and treatment with the minor’s consent if possible. Various states also grant making of decisions authority to unemancipated children looking for treatment for medical issues like drug or alcohol misuse, pregnancy, or STIs.

My Codes Of Ethics

This entails my values concerning the general Code of ethics. My codes will serve as a frequent reminder of my conduct in any professional situation and broadly in a counseling environment. I certainly will always uphold my values and standards, recognizing their momentousness to my professional career.


I will always welcome criticism in a constructive upbringing because this might undoubtedly build on an accessible environment for counseling. When listening to the ideas of the people I am counseling, an open mind will always be my priority, for this enhances the communication between us and is open to any necessary changes that may arise either within the company.


I will always prioritize my work and stay committed to it regardless of the times, moods, or other personal feelings. I am always ready to serve and committed to whatever task at hand. This will build a positive environment between the individuals I relate with, enhancing my counseling skills and abilities.


No matter the situation, I will report nothing but the truth, whether to a coworker, manager, or in communication with the public or a client, ensuring accuracy in whatever task at hand. Honesty will always lead to effective and excellent counseling in the arena.


My clients and the community can trust in me to deliver the best results in everything I do within the counseling environment and beyond. My workers will undoubtedly believe in me as the best team player, while those above me in rank will always trust my decisions and ability.


I will always be anxious to hear new information for the betterment of myself and the company and desire new ideas and notions to be questioned and discussed with a great attitude. In a counseling environment, this makes the communication fluent and more welcoming.


I will always look beyond gathering new ideas and completing a task, always giving attention to brilliant ideas and knowledge about the company to enhance the experience. This will build up my counseling skills.

In conclusion, the Code of ethics varies from field to field, and each one is as important as the other towards a perfect and precise achievement in the work at hand. In a counseling environment, these codes will always contribute new and creative ideas to the profession as well as limit the client’s and workers’ actions in the workplace. The codes can also disclose potential conflicts, educate the individuals in the environment, and remain ethical when open competition is encouraged at all times.
