Thesis: This paper provides a glimpse of Neil Armstrong’s exciting life and professional experience, from his time as an X-15 pilot to becoming the first man to land on the moon.
Introduction
Neil Armstrong was born in 1930 and died in 2012. He was the first astronaut in the United States, an aeronautical engineer, and the first person to land on the moon. At the age of six, Armstrong flew on an airplane for the first time, life and professional experience that ignited many people’s desire and passion for aviation. Armstrong developed a fascination with aviation at a young age, making him receive a piloting license at the age of 16 years.
Discussion
The life experience and professional history of Neil Armstrong are exciting due to the evolution and growth of aviation technologies that impacted his career. In 1969, Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon at the age of 39 years. However, before this, Armstrong made a significant milestone in aviation which enhanced the success of his career. For instance, at the age of six, Armstrong flew in an airplane for the first time, igniting the desire and passion for aviation among many young people willing to pursue aviation (West p.12). On his 16th birthday, he received a pilot’s license and became a naval air cadet at the age of 17 years. In 1947, he enrolled at Purdue University to learn aeronautical engineering under the U.S Navy scholarship.
Before Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, NASA had developed various technologies and inventions that enhanced the success of the journey to the moon. First, NASA developed a small and lightweight, which helped purify water for human space flight. This invention helped to kill bacteria and remove the problem of stinging eyes and bleaching while on the moon. NASA also developed LIDAR and a camera system that helped to generate 2D and 3D images of the moon’s surface. Neil Armstrong used the onboard computer system developed by NASA in 1965 to characterize the landscape underneath during the final descent.
Neil Armstrong and other Astronauts recorded details of significant occasions with digital pens that allowed the ink to flow freely in areas with low gravity. Some other technologies developed by NASA and Neil Armstrong that enhanced space flight include breathing apparatus, fabric structures, communication, and protective coatings that made the flight to the moon successful (Hansen p.8). This implies that the fascinating experience of Armstrong landing on the moon greatly impacted how machines are built for space exploration. Armstrong also helped to test many machines to enhance the success of space exploration and enable many people to learn and understand the universe. After space exploration in 1969, Armstrong left the NASA astronaut corps and served as an administrator of NASA aeronautics for two years. He also served as the chairman of computing technologies for aviation from 1982-1992.
In conclusion, this paper has shown that Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon at the age of 39 years. Armstrong was involved in developing important technologies such as breathing apparatus, fabric structures, communication, and protective coatings that successfully made the flight to the moon’s moon. After space exploration in 1969, Armstrong developed technologies such as rockets, satellites, miniaturization, and a global network of ground stations.
