The Bermuda Triangle is an imaginary area on the outer tip of Florida that is shaped like a triangle. It’s also referred to as the Devil’s triangle. The Bermuda triangle has been on record for mysteries and disappearances over time. The first person to refer to the place as the Bermuda triangle was named Vincent H Gaddis, who investigated and recorded that there were records of disappearing planes and ships in the strange sea (Luke, M). However, Gaddis was not the only one who recorded the strange conclusion; George X Sands also concluded that strange accidents and disappearances were happening in the sea, and it was concerning that they were in unusually large numbers. There are mythical theories attached to the Bermuda triangle. However, questions arise on its discovery and how paranormal the events happened. Some people say that the events occur; naturally, some say aliens have influence. Using the most recent research, the total number of planes that have disappeared adds up to 75; a cargo ship with 33 passengers on board also disappeared, and an U.s navy ship Cyclops with 309 crew members also went missing. Therefore, this essay will provide a critical analysis of the Bermuda triangle mysteries, for instance, the disappearance of flight 19, the disappearance of the five bomber planes, the Atlantis myth, and the electromagnetic field of the ocean and UFO attacks that might provide possible answers to questions that linger in peoples mind on what happens in the Bermuda triangle.
Examples of mysteries in the Bermuda triangle
Flight 19 and 5 bomber planes
One of the greatest mysteries that have been recorded was the disappearance of flight 19, which occurred on December 5, 1945. The navy sent out five bomber planes in the search for the flight. The flight instructor ordered the planes to take different directions to cover more distance at a lesser time. However, after 55 hours of flying, the captain noted a change in the weather, and it was getting difficult to navigate(Riley& James). Soon after that, the compasses malfunctioned, and some parts of the machines failed. That is the recorded statement of the disappearance of the five bomber planes, and no one has ever had from them since then. The story of the disappearance of flight 19 was that five bomber planes went in to rescue them, and they disappeared, and no one knows if they lived or died.
Vanish of US Cyclops
In 1918 the US Cyclops was reported missing, the ship was first launched in 1910, and its sole purpose was to carry coal in World War 1 for the navy. It took the route from Salvador to Baltimore, but it never made it there. According to the last communications made by the ship’s captain, the ship had a stop at Barbados, and after they stopped, it completely disappeared with no traces (Khan, Mohd Sadiq Ali). After a thorough search, there was no evidence of a wrecked ship or distressed signals received. The ship’s disappearance caused the death of 306 naval which is the highest recorded number of the naval soldiers without combat involved. However, the vanishing of the ship is a mystery because there is no recorded strategic point of disappearance. Hence, the ship would have vanished from any point in the middle of Salvador and Baltimore. Moreover, the communication system was a failure at the time of the accident, and the caption could not have had enough time to communicate and ask for rescue before the ship sank. The ship vanished with no traces or evidence of possible events that might have led to its disappearance.
Mystery on Sulphur Queen SS marine
Another incident that was a concern was the vanishing of the Sulphur Queen SS marine. The Sulphur Queen SS marine ship was mainly used to transport sulfur from one place to another. However, in February 1963, it was put on a voyage to transport sulfur to nor fork; it had 39 crew members and carried 15000 tons of Sulphur(Riley& James). The last communication that the ship had was on February 4, and the message relayed was normal, and nothing was out of control. After that, no communication was received from the ship, which raised concerns. A search operation was carried out, but there was no evidence or remains of the vessel. Speculations were made that probably the ship faced strong waves that resulted in the explosion of the molten Sulphur preserved in the tasks. However, this concept was discredited because there were no remains of the ship from the fore or any related remains.
Vanishing of DC-3NC16002
DC-3NC16002 disappearance was a tragic mystery that had a lot of speculations on what happened. The flight was on its cause from Miami to Puerto Rico when the vanishing happened (Richard, Orlin). The ordeal was like the rest of the cases; the pilot constantly communicated with the control room until the last 20 minutes of the journey. The astonishing thing about the case is that there was no record of bad weather, and it was okay to fly. However, the plane, passengers and the crew disappeared into thin air, leaving no traces of evidence. Forty-six years later, the case has not been solved yet. Speculations were made that the flight might have followed a wrong route due to a faulty transmitter and crashed, or there was an explosion. However, this two do not solve the explanation that there are no remains of the plane and its passengers.
Disappearance of Rosaline
Rosaline is a French ship that was on its enrooted to Havana. However, the ship and its cargo did not disappear in the Bermuda triangle, but the passengers and the crew members disappeared. Unlike other ships that were not found, Rosaline was intact and its cargo. This was surprising because no evidence of a disease or infection killed the passengers, and neither were their remains. The possibility of pirates carrying out the attack was ruled out because the cargo was intact. Hence, whoever took the passenger and the crew member was only interested in them and nothing else.
Theories that help to understand the vanishing of ships and planes
Human error and bad weather conditions
However, some theories have been discussed to explain the disappearance’s possible reasons. For instance, Karl Kruszelnicki concluded that there are no mysteries attached to the disappearance of flight 19 (Speculations about the major accidents in the Bermuda Triangle,n.d.). His hypothesis of the issue was that there was mismanagement of the team by the instructor and the poor weather conditions contributed to the ship’s disappearance. According to scientist Karl Kruszelnicki, the location of the Bermuda triangle could be a possible solution to solving the disappearing mysteries of the ships. He highlights that the Bermuda triangle is located near the equator and wealthy America in the Atlantic Ocean. Therefore, there is a lot of traffic in the area because of the many ship and planes likely to use the area. In addition, Karl Kruszelnicki is not the only person who doesn’t believe in unusual mysteries of the disappearance; the Coast Guard and the national ocean service also provided their findings (Speculations about the major accidents in the Bermuda Triangle,n.d.). According to their report, after the research and analysis of the disappearances, the casualties were not found to suffer from other forces apart from the physical causes. There has been no record of other reasons for the disappearances.
In comparison with other oceans, the number of disappearing is slightly the same, which proves that there is nothing mysterious about the disappearance in the Bermuda triangle. According to the service and scientists of the national oceans, the possible reason for the disappearance of ships and planes is human error. The national ocean service recorded a statement highlighting that if the captain had been keen to keep the team together and warn them of the bad weather, their death chances would have been minimized. In addition, they recorded the statement that “the ocean can be a mysterious place for humans; however, when poor navigation and bad weather conditions are involved, it can be a deadly place”. In conclusion, the theory of human error and bad weather conditions could be the most appropriate way to provide the solution for the disappearance since it’s logical to the physical causes that affected the planes. However, it disapproves of any theories of mystical beliefs that could cause the vanishing of the planes.
Magnetic field theory
One of the theories used to understand the disappearance of the ship is the existence of a strong magnetic field in the Bermuda triangle area. According to scientists, the true north and the magnetic north are different, and they require understanding to avoid the chances of an accident occurring (Vale, Jenna, and Aaron Rosenberg). Most of the sailors in the Bermuda triangle experienced problems sailing because their compasses failed due to the strong electromagnetic field in the area. Additionally, areas of lower bindings are strong enough to cause turbulence winds which can destroy the planes. Moreover, the ships are likely to take the wrong route if the variations of the true north and the magnetic north are not considered. In the cases experienced in Bermuda, the sailing captains are likely affected by the electromagnetic forces and lost their route to destinations. Also, the existence of the blue holes explains why there is no evidence of the remains of the ship or the crew members. The blue holes are the remains of the caves in the oceans for hundreds of years. When strong tides occur in the oceans, they create a funnel-like effect in the blue holes. This creates strong whirlpools that engulf the ship and sinks it into the blue hole, and hence no evidence or remains are collected from the ordeal. Severally, ships have been sent out to the Bermuda triangle to investigate the effects of the magnetic fields. Unfortunately, none of the ships or the scientists have been found as evidence of a sinking or flaming ship. They, too, have disappeared with no traces.
Hexagonal cloud theory
Meteorologists have been doing their research to find sensible conclusions that will help solve the mysteries in the Bermuda triangle. Among the theories proposed is the hexagonal cloud theory, which proved to be the reason for the disappearance of ships and planes. In 2015, a meteorologist observed a hexagonal cloud above the Atlantic Ocean in strange patterns with gaps of about 55 miles from each other. According to Dr. Randy, hexagonal clouds are dangerous to ships and planes and can cause damage to them. They are represented as air bombs(Malik, Aftab Ahmad, et al.). Dr. Randy explained that a microburst forms the hexagonal clouds, and they contain air that blasts from the bottom of the cloud and causes large waves strong enough to sink ships.
Additionally, when the cloud blast hits pilots, they are likely to lose control, and the plane crashes into the waves and sinks into the sea. According to scientists, the cloud blasts are strong and fast; the air bomb travels at 170 miles per hour. This is a sensible explanation for the disappearance of the ship and planes without any distress signal. The theory is appropriate and provides reasons for the vanishing of the ship and planes without signals; however, it does not yet answer where the remains of the ships and planes go after the accidents.
Time wraps, UFOS, other worlds
Scientists have recorded statements that there is a possibility of other parallel worlds. The existence of a strong magnetic field in the Bermuda triangle creating an anti-gravity environment can be an opening to the parallel worlds. According to scientists, traces of contra-terrene are rare to find on the earth’s crust. However, they have been found in the Bermuda triangle. This explains the missing scientists who went to investigate the area but were never found, and their ship was also missing.
Additionally, the disappearance of the Sulphur Queen SS marine ship explains that there could be the existence of aliens or UFOs (West, David ). The ship disappeared and was never found, but there was evidence of a life jacket salvaged from the incident. However, the jacket was badly torn. According to some researchers, the planes and ships were not recovered because the UFOS, stronger than the artificial mode of transport, overpowered them.
Methane gas theory
Scientist has proved that methane gas exists under the ocean though they are in frozen form. When methane hydrate gas explodes under the ocean, they cause large craters that can sink ship into them. For instance, if a ship happens to pass by the point of explosion, they are likely to be sunk to the crater created below the Sea, and that is an explanation for why the ship is never found(ENGLEZOS&PETER, 181). Moreover, if a plane passes by the point of explosion, they are burnt down with no time to respond since the gas is highly ignitable. The methane gas burns fast and unexpectedly, so the ship and the planes vanish without any distress signals.
In conclusion, the Bermuda triangle is associated with many mythical beliefs that try to explain the vanishing of planes and ships. However, scientists have come up with theories explaining that it is not unusual for accidents to happen, and there are logical reasons for the disappearance. Theories that are put in place to understand the mysteries include the magnetic theory, methane hydrate gas theory, time wraps, UFOS, other worlds, hexagonal cloud theory, and human error and bad weather conditions. After a series of my research, trying to solve the Bermuda triangle case leads to a dead end since there is no evidence to build a case on. Though scientists may have theories that try and solve the case, there is no true evidence of the inferences of the case, and they are just speculations that try and provide the answers to questions that many people ask. Moreover, ocean accidents happen worldwide, and Bermuda’s case is different from theirs. Up to date, there is no explanation for the mysteries, and scientific explanations are a nice way to tell the story.
