Historian Hegel was born in Germany; he became an excellent intellectual and philosopher and ascended to the top of the academic world. He became the head of Berlin University. In His philosophy, ‘progress is never linear,’ he states that there is wisdom to be learned in every stage of life, and this wisdom is the stepping stone of the following for any improvement. He goes on to state that intellectuals should rescue from the past the best-fitting idea, the ones most needed to make progress and build on these ideas to achieve desired goals. These fetched ideas from history are the compensation necessary for the blind spots of the present. The philosopher challenged the people to learn from ideas they dislike, for disliking something is not enough proof that it is useless or it will not work to help solve the challenges facing the human population and progress.
Application of the philosophy in sports.
In the sports industry, it is evident that progress has neither been speedy nor without its challenges. The sports industry has been restricted several times in search of gain. Sports management has had to use previous failures as a learning point. The successes the sport has experienced over the years are the cornerstone to the achievement of the thriving industry we witness. The industry management incorporated ideas they didn’t initially like and brought about the inclusion of women into the sport, though it was initially considered a pure men affair. As stated by philosopher HEGEL, progress is never linear; the sports industry has introduced policies and later repealed them for failure to achieve desired results, returned to the drawing board, and sought new approaches.
The sports industry has been forced to go back in time, fetch the decisions that worked and seek to implement them in the present generations, for they have been a success.

Professionalism.
Sports in the ancient world used to be a source of entertainment and used to be conducted on specific dates when there was festive function and cultural occasions. These gatherings drew many people together, and they expressed their satisfaction with sports. Later, these huge gatherings turned the games into a more frequent function. In historian HEGEL’s Philosophy, ‘progress is never linear, we can note that the sports gradually developed from a festive function into an industry through difficult and different hurdles, sports even though detested by some prevails, this proves that over time people have adopted the Historians philosophy of accommodating and asking valid questions into things that they do not like and looked to learn from them. Over time people have changed from festival sports performers into professional sportsmen and women in all levels of sports (DeSensi & Rosenberg, 1996).
Equity.
Equity has, over time, been a subject in every industry; the sports industry has been no different when equity is a consideration. Sports used to be a men’s affair, ladies’ participation in sports have been gradual and achieved minimal success through the generations, and today ladies have been incorporated in all types of sport and games. Ladies have had to fight for their inclusion and faced repeated setbacks, and this proves the Historian’s philosophy that ‘progress is never linear. The sports management disliked the idea of ladies’ inclusion and participation in any games. Progress has been achieved in the sports industry from classical to modern times. We have both the men’s and ladies’ set-ups, organized competitions, and enjoy equal participation in most parts of the world.
Legal Management.
Participation in the games in the classical age had no legal framework or management; the sportsmen’s and women’s participation was made on agreements that were broken more often. The game used to be an affair of the willing as to when who, and where. The modern game has seen improvement and signing contracts at every level; the contracts act as guarantees for participation and safety conditions. The enactment of the legal management of sportsmen and women has gone through storms and objections, but with time the struggle has resulted in progress; this proves the Historian’s philosophy the progress achieved in the legal framework has forced people to question that which they dislike and pick the important points and incorporates them in the success of the legal management in the modern games (DeSensi & Rosenberg, 1996).
Team ownerships.
The classical game period ushered in the ownership of sports teams by the corporates and the counties and states, communities owned teams, and the financing of these teams was mainly done through fund drives and government bailouts. The modern game has, however, seen the ownership shift from local communities to individuals and companies; the fans can also own the team through consortiums, and the ownership received much criticism from the cheering fans, the change from community-owned teams has not been linear but has achieved success. Disliked ideas are not overly bad.
Personal issues.
The modern game has brought many crises on any participant’s issues. Players and management find it difficult to separate their personal lives from the game they play. It is no longer a matter of choice for them; once in the spotlight of the modern game, they become public figures. These were issues that never existed in the classical game. Change is inevitable, but it brings lasting changes to whoever accepts it (Gullion, L.1995). Hence proving the Historian’s philosophy that ‘progress is never linear.
Social Justice.
In the classical game era, social justice was never served; the game’s stakeholders had the freedom to express themselves in any way they deemed fit in the pursuit of team success and progress. However, the drive for more success and representation in the modern game has seen changes in the social justice of the sports teams towards the local communities and authorities. Inclusion in sports agenda and participation in community building. This has been achieved by asking questions about what is contained in foreign or alien ideas as fronted by Historians (Delpay, L A. 1998).
The philosopher HEGEL is correct in stating that we must question what we dislike and take advantage of alien and enemy intellectuals for progress is not linear. Our feelings towards us cannot hinder our openness of mind and the ability to recognize an opportunity to learn and advance. Applying this philosophy in explaining the change in the sports industry from classical to modern game elaborates the importance of the Historian helping understand different situations and progress in general. The sports industry has changed over time, new methods of management and representation have been incorporated, and this change has happened in accordance with the philosophy. His works are a significant contribution to the intellectual world.
