Exploring Nursing Practice Through a Patient-Centered Lens: A Critical Reflection

Introduction

Nursing is unique in healthcare because it promotes health and healing through caring relationships. The 2010 Social Policy Statement describes nursing as understanding diverse human experiences and responses to health and illness in complex physical and social contexts. An essay on a nursing situation that led to a critical review of conventional practices and a search for evidence-based treatments. This real-world occurrence and a chosen major research study reveal a patient-centred research subject. This study emphasizes the relevance of research in developing responsive and effective healthcare approaches by linking clinical experiences to nursing practice advancement.

Nursing Situation

My recent serious occurrence made me question nursing procedures. A chronically ill patient was hospitalized for routine treatment in a medical-surgical facility. The situation seemed simple, yet several parts violated nursing laws and necessitated a re-evaluation of patient care. Multiple factors exacerbated the problem. First, healthcare team communication concerns hampered care plan coordination (Akseer et al., 2021). The patient’s intricate medical history and comorbidities were not adequately assessed during the initial examination, emphasizing the necessity for holistic care. The patient appeared vulnerable and anxious. Poor communication left the patient unaware of the surgery, risks, and repercussions. The patient is slowly changing status necessitated interdisciplinary collaboration.

Critical Analysis

Reflecting on the nursing issue indicates its massive impact on patient care and nursing practice. The situation may indicate systemic healthcare delivery issues. Breach of communication and holistic patient evaluation threatens nursing ethics and timely patient care—multiple patient effects. First, inadequate communication and information leave patients vulnerable, eroding therapeutic nurse-patient trust (Byrne et al., 2019). This broken relationship might hurt patients’ involvement and well-being. Late responses to changing health situations can aggravate or develop new concerns.

Primary Research Study Article

Awad et al.’s (2021) study, “Connected Healthcare: Improving Patient Care Using Digital Health Technologies,” analyzes how digital health technology can improve patient care. The main question is what makes digital health technologies better for patients and healthcare. The study analyzes how digital health technologies improve patient care, communication, and healthcare systems (Awad et al., 2021). This research article addresses communication difficulties and holistic patient care, which are relevant to my nursing experience. Digital health technologies may improve patient outcomes, interdisciplinary collaboration, and informed decision-making as the U.S. healthcare system evolves.

Comparison and Synthesis

The nursing environment and research topic demonstrate that nursing requires excellent communication and comprehensive patient care. Communication breakdowns and poor holistic evaluations in nursing correlate with the study’s goal of improving patient outcomes through better communication and care. Research demonstrating that personalized therapies increase patient satisfaction and adherence addresses nursing issues (Awad et al., 2021). The study’s review of treatment alternatives and adaptation to U.S. healthcare culture may apply to the U.S. healthcare system. Implementing the research could lessen U.S. healthcare nursing concerns.

Recommendations for Practice

Based on the results, I recommend targeted communication training for healthcare workers and holistic nursing assessment protocols. These approaches enhance patient-provider communication and holistic care. Holistic care and good communication improve patient happiness, treatment adherence, and well-being (Awad et al., 2021). However, the healthcare system’s resistance to change, provider time constraints, and the need for further training may make these changes challenging. To overcome these challenges, stakeholders must be engaged, continuous education must be offered, and resources must be allocated to support evidence-based practices.

Conclusion

This nursing dilemma encouraged critical thought and a patient-centred research study. This study examined nurse dilemma communication and holistic care difficulties. According to this essay, evidence-based nursing practice transforms through targeted interventions, good communication, and holistic assessments. Implementing these findings into nursing practice may enhance patient outcomes, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based practices in patient-centred healthcare.
