Essay on Policing Strategy

Policing can be defined as maintaining law and order by the relevant authorities; thus, a policing strategy can be stated as a coherent plan of action designed to ensure that law and order are adhered to in a society. The goals of strategic policing may include finding suspects, making effective use of police resources, or preventing crime. Comprehensive research may be used to determine the best techniques for various scenarios. The primary focus of this article is on management’s obligation to carry out the creation of a community-focused, high-performance security agency. To successfully police a region, strategic chiefs must integrate strategic planning with other management strategies (Swanson et al., 2021).

As a chief whose society has been curbed by a rampant crime rate, I will first create awareness in the community and ensure a good rapport between the community and the law enforcement agency. This strategy is unanimously referred to as community policing. This good rapport will ensure that they report anyone acting in violation of the law and will not feel intimidated to come forward in case they fall victim to a crime. I will ensure that law enforcement agencies are accountable and transparent with their actions to align with the current societal norms. The atmosphere for policing changed dramatically just a few years ago. In reaction to allegations of unfair policing, several social groups have been urging law enforcement organizations to be more open and honest. Additionally, a detailed examination is being done of the militarization of the police force due to SWAT-style tactics and tools (Swanson et al., 2021).

To address the recruitment and retention of personnel, I will ensure that the employees working in security agencies have a balanced work life and ample time with their families and friends away from work. I believe the agency is having issues with employee recruitment and retention due to employee dissatisfaction due to the unbalanced work-life program and lack of career development opportunities. An effective strategy for employee retention is to provide a range of options for professional growth and promotion; this might come from coaching or training to assist people in moving up in their profession. Integrating these chances into my workplace culture is a crucial recruiting tactic that can assist in resolving recruitment and retention challenges (Dekker et al., 2020).

Another vital area I will also have to embrace dearly is the use of social media technology. Although efforts have been put in place to ensure that the law enforcement agency keeps in touch with society through social media platforms, I feel that the endeavors have been subpar. Law enforcement agencies can benefit from using social media, but doing so without a defined strategy can put the department in danger of failing—a mistake my agency cannot afford to make now. Law enforcement agencies have never previously shown such a strong dedication to and embrace of social media. From patrol officers to police commanders, the knowledge that Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are more beneficial than detrimental is becoming increasingly widespread (Dekker et al., 2020).

A successful social media strategy is to conduct yourself online and offline. Every day when police speak with citizens, I want them to be polite, professional, and able to respond to common inquiries from the public. And in their interactions, I anticipate the police to exercise humanity, compassion, and understanding when necessary, as well as assert authority and command when circumstances call for it. When producing content, I’ll ensure we consider what the community’s members want to see. Consider the social media accounts or posts you connect with and the ones you scroll through because they don’t grab your attention. We will use this to communicate with the community through social media and establish a positive rapport since what we enjoy and find fascinating on social media is highly similar to what our community members want (Dekker et al., 2020).

Conclusion

By working with residents and police personnel, community policing attempts to enhance the quality of life and boost public safety. In community policing, the police’s role extends beyond incident response to include problem-solving on behalf of and in collaboration with the local population. The advantages of community policing stem primarily from a significant emphasis on enhancing community ties and establishing community partnerships.
