Essay on Leadership Strategy

My major role as the Head Nurse in this setting is to oversee patient care. In order to uncover the underlying causes of these patients’ frequent trips to the ED, as well as the underlying issues that lead to their frequent visits, this subject has to be researched further. To begin, I would collaborate with nurses on the floor, maybe working all shifts for many weeks and questioning them about the variables that contributed to this patient’s repeated trips to the ER. In my role as the unit’s head nurse, I am responsible for evaluating the knowledge and experience of other nurses in the emergency department’s procedures. Nurses have a variety of tasks and obligations when it comes to patient care, including resource management (Spath, 2018). After conversing with nurses on the floor, I will offer these nurses concise and explicit instructions on how to use and manage the emergency room effectively.

Many healthcare institutions may face a deficit in utilization management when vital human resource services are repeatedly abused. This might stem from the organization’s inability to manage its resources effectively. The primary goal of leadership is to assist in the planning and organization of healthcare assets and services to preserve profitability while delivering high-quality treatment to patients and other stakeholders (Spath, 2018). Taking the required steps to create changes that will benefit the facility, its patients, and its employees is an essential consideration.

In numerous healthcare organizations, Management Utilization (MU) is considered to be a critical component. When vital human resource services are repeatedly misused, most healthcare institutions may face a deficit in utilization management, resulting in undesired expenditures for the company as a consequence. In order to sustain profitability while delivering high-quality treatment to patients, utilization management is intended to assist in the planning and organization of healthcare assets and services (Spath, 2018). The measures you take to adopt changes that benefit the institution, its patients, and its employees are crucial in allowing you to fulfill your responsibilities as a charged caregiver.

The most successful leadership style in this situation will be transformational leadership. This leadership style is the most effective for me when it comes to change management. Integrating this strategy in therapeutic settings has the potential to lower the number of emergency department visits from patients with Alzheimer’s disease. It is a distinct leadership style in which leaders collaborate with workers to discover areas for development, build a vision to drive change via inspiration, and then put changes into action through cooperation (Fischer, 2017). This leadership will enable me to gather data from patients who visited the emergency room multiple times in a month and then apply a root cause analysis (RCA) approach to determine precisely why and what drove those patients to attend the emergency room several times each month.

Several nurses from various shifts, as well as a case manager for each patient, were brought together with the assistance of the Ward Nurse Manager to establish this RCA group. When the team members gather for this meeting, they will have the chance to participate in open conversation. I will also inform them that their recommendations and concerns will be taken into consideration in developing intervention methods to address these problems. In order to enhance care coordination, I want to instill in ground floor nurses who function as first responders the habit of communicating patient demands to the head nurse.

Furthermore, I would encourage case managers to communicate effectively with all relevant parties as soon as feasible and reply to nurses as quickly as possible when a patient’s need or concern is brought to their notice. Effective communication is crucial throughout the transition process. This skill helps us examine what steps need to be made to avoid patients from visiting the emergency room needlessly. According to Sibiya (2017), the flow of communication, cooperation, and continual development of understanding between healthcare practitioners increase the likelihood that patients will get high-quality treatment and have favorable outcomes.
