Essay on Global Problems

Introduction

Ideally, global problems are serious issues that the contemporary international community is experiencing. The global problems transcend the regional and national boundaries and affect the survival and development of the whole human race. In the current century, the world has developed, and with the integration of the international community, global problems are more produced. With globalization, individuals can live in any part of the world. As a result, global problems such as ecological imbalance, environmental pollution, shortage of resources, war, among others, exist. Therefore, global problems are natural consequences of unrestrained economic growth and modern globalization. One of the most severe global problems countries are facing is international terrorism. The international community has tried to solve global problems. However, the problem has been alleviated, not eradicated. Some reasons have contributed to the international community’s failure to solve global problems. This paper will discuss why the international community finds it difficult to solve global problems.

Reasons why the international community find it difficult to solve global problems

Global politics is one of the factors that has hindered the international community from solving global issues. Ideally, global politics have existed due to globalization, which has had significant impacts on politics (Vanchukhina et al., 2019). Globalization has established a common political culture among individuals across the world, resulting in the similarity in the political culture. Therefore, common values such as freedom, equality, peace, competition, justice, free election and democracy have existed due to globalization. According to Bak (2019), global politics illustrates politics conducted at the international level instead of the regional or national level. Currently, global politics are growing to be more significant. An international organization such United Nations has grown, and nations have universal membership (Berdal & Suhrke, 2018). As a result, political issues have acquired global character since all individuals and parts of the country are affected. Global politics influence an international organization when solving global problems such as war. For instance, the US military and Afghanistan war was an international intervention.

US military started a war with Afghanistan because the Taliban government refused to hand over terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden. Osama Bin Laden was trained in the US, and as a result, he was knowledgeable and skilful in fighting (Bizhan, 2018). Terrorists organized terrorism activities in the US, leading to mass killing. The Taliban leadership lost control of the nation and relocated to Southern Afghanistan and across the border to Pakistan. Therefore, the US started the attack on Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, characterized by intense bombing. The US military had to form a coalition to conquer the country. It resulted in the country using its resources to defeat the government. Despite the US military intervention, the country has not been politically stable because of the threats the country is facing. It is still under government by the Taliban and US. The US military intervention aimed to ensure Afghanistan was a safe place for living and a country free of evil (Bak, 2019). However, the intervention has devastated the country, which is not politically stable. The war demonstrated global political power in which the US intervened to solve terrorism attacks. The countries could use other means to intervene; however, the government used war to solve a global issue due to global political power. Therefore, global politics is one of the reasons why the international community does not solve global problems.

Another example of how global politics prevent the international community from solving global problems is the case of the Russia-Ukraine war. The NATO coalition is a result of global politics, and it could not allow Russia and Ukraine to solve their dispute through collaboration. The use of war has intensified the problems in Ukraine. It is because of the conflict between NATO and Russia. Therefore, global politics has prevented the international community from solving global problems.

Furthermore, the world is not an equal place. Therefore, each individual has different experiences regarding the quality of life, opportunities and human rights. Some nations are wealthier than others, while others are more resourceful. Moreover, some nations have a stable government and more peaceful countries while others do not have (Berdal & Suhrke, 2018). Global inequality is caused by many factors, including poverty, conflict, lack of education, little access to clean water and hygiene. Global inequality has interfered with the international community solving global problems. For instance, poverty is one of the reasons why the international community has not solved global issues.

Poverty leads to individuals not being in a position to afford basic needs, and as a result, its result in problems to solve global problems. With the advancement in technology and globalization, people can conduct business globally. However, with poverty, countries may find it challenging to operate globally, and as a result, solving global problems may be a challenge. Furthermore, some countries experience poverty more than others. Therefore, some of the opportunities presented by the international community to ensure a quality life for all individuals may not be embraced similarly in all countries (Harris et al., 2019). Poverty can be a challenge when dealing with global problems, for instance, war. When dealing with poverty, individuals do not have adequate food, and as a result, they cannot be in a position to fight for the country.

Additionally, the international community may provide programs for dealing with global problems such as lack of access to water and sanitation. However, due to global inequalities, people may not be in a position to support the programs. As a result, the programs may not assist the people, and thus, the international community may fail when addressing global problems.

Furthermore, advocating for human rights could be a problem due to global inequality. It could lead to individuals’ rights not being protected the same across the world. The international community intervenes to advocate and safeguard the right of the human being. Individuals need to be treated with dignity, and as a result, the international community intervenes to protect their rights (Williams et al., 2018). For instance, war can violate human rights because it can lead to mass killing. Every human being has a right to live, and as a result, a need to protect such rights is essential. Global inequality can fail to protect the rights because of a lack of resources in some countries. Third world countries are characterized by being resource-poor, and as a result, they may lack resources to fight for human rights. As much as an international community may advocate for human rights, it can be challenging if a country lacks resources. After implementing the programs for advocating for human rights, the programs need to be maintained.

Additionally, every country has different priorities, and as a result, when the international community solves global issues, problems occur as a result of different priorities. Some countries are resource-rich, and others are resource-poor (Hiscott et al., 2019). These countries have different priorities. When resource-rich countries are struggling to develop their countries in ensuring that governments are well connected in technology, other countries are struggling to feed their individuals. As a result, when solving global problems, the international community faces challenges. It is because lack of unity in what countries may lead to challenges when trying to meet the needs of all countries. However, the international community can make options. Some countries may make leeways between parties and have open-ended solutions. For instance, coal mining is a big problem in the West; however, under-developed countries depend on it for survival. Coal mining is considered one factor that leads to environmental issues, one of the global problems (Dauvergne, 2018). Therefore, when international communities are trying to solve environmental problems, some countries’ core activities affect their environment and are their source of income. This leads to difficulties when solving global issues because of different priorities. Some countries want to maximize coal production, while the international community wants to stop coal production to minimize its adverse effects to the community; as a result, different priorities that countries are one reason why the international community has not solved global issues.

Furthermore, politics affects the ability of an international community to solve global problems. Every country wants to have a significant role in the world. Some countries want to be superior to others, resulting in conflict (Zebracki & Luger, 2019). The notion of every country trying to have a significant role has left some others in a dilemma because countries leverage each other to win. This results in political problems, and some countries form collaboration, making other countries feel threatened (Mindell, 2019). It can lead to conflict between the countries, making it difficult for the international community to solve global problems. Furthermore, some countries are considered to be corrupt. As a result, solving global issues can be a challenge. Political leaders can be corrupt, which leads to them being elected over and over in the country. When their opponents can interfere with the voting process, political leaders are not afraid to do the same in the next election. Sometimes the corrupt leaders have a connection with the international community, and as a result, nothing can be done to prevent such acts. It leads to problems in solving global issues.

Furthermore, ignorance is one of the reasons why the international community do not solve global issues. They do not care about their acts and how it affects those around them. Their acts negatively impact the world, and they are doing nothing to stop their actions (McGrath & Watson, 2018). This affects the international community when solving global issues. Some countries are ignorant of what is happening around the world and how their acts contribute to global problems.

Further, the international community are ignorant. For instance, the international community can be ignorant when intervening to solve a global issue (Reznikova, Ivashchenko & Rubtsova, 2020). Ignorance can result from the international community intervening not doing comprehensive research on the impacts of its activities on the country in which it is intervening, and as a result leading to harm (Harris et al., 2019). Comprehensive research can assist in understanding the root cause of the global problems and, as a result coming up with an excellent plan to solve the problem. This can assist in eradicating the problem instead of alleviating the problem. Therefore, helping the international community in solving global issues.

Moreover, some countries have high corruption cases, which makes the international community find it difficult to solve global problems (Shah, 2020). Corruption interferes with the leadership in the countries, which affects the rules and regulations that the government enforces (Thatcher, Nayak & Waterson, 2020). Corruption leads to some countries not following guidelines formulated to solve the global challenges.

Conclusion

The international community play a significant role in solving global problems. However, the international community has failed when solving international issues. One of the reasons is ignorance, in which the international community does not carry out comprehensive research on the root cause of the global problem to provide an appropriate solution. Further, global inequality has interfered with the international community’s ability to solve global issues. Countries across the world are diverse. Some of the countries are resource-rich, while others are resource-poor. Furthermore, countries have different priorities, which affects the international community when solving global problems. Global politics has also affect the international community when solving global issues. Some countries want to have a significant role in global politics. This has caused conflict among nations and thus making it difficult for the international community to solve global problems.
