Rao, Parupalli Srinivas. “The role of English as a global language.” Research Journal of English 4.1 (2019): 65-79.
Rao points out that, with the globalization that has led to interactions of different nations with diverse cultures, the English language remains a common language. Since the use of Latin in the ancient days, the advancement in technology has incorporated English as the main language with examples in programming where codes have English letters. However, Rao continues to show that English is not only used in technology but also in business, tourism, and humanitarian programs. Over time, most of the important educational materials and diplomatic writings have been done in English, thereby globalization the language even more. Therefore, this contributes to the research exploring the English language.
Melitz, Jacques. “English as a global language.” The Palgrave handbook of economics and language. Palgrave Macmillan, London, 2016. 583-615.
Melitz explores the spread of English around the globe. He analyses how a common language promotes bilateral trade and other factors that push people to learn the English language. The world is now more connected than ever, especially in the wake of the internet. People can learn almost everything on the internet. Therefore, as Melitz questions how to further English, the internet is offering quick fixes. According to Melitz, trade is the major aspect that many countries share, and to be able to conduct smooth trade, there is a need to prevent misinterpretation and misunderstanding in business due to language barriers. Therefore, since many nations speak English, and with the US being a land of opportunities, many want to go there but have to learn English. Therefore, English continues to grow to many as people and nations do business.

In this article, the author explores the problems nonnative speakers of English face in trying to master the English language so as to identify with the global world. It is a common problem faced by many as they try to learn English. Some problems include different alphabets, a different mode of writing, and pronunciation issues. The authors consider a study carried out on college students, both boys and girls in Saudia Arabia. Problems arising include lack of reading, lack of interest in English literature, and people not being able to use English within the family and daily undertakings. However, the importance of the English language, especially to nonnative speakers, is to identify with the rest of the world.
Alizadeh, Mitra. “The impact of motivation on English language learning.” International Journal of Research in English Education 1.1 (2016): 11-15.
According to Alizadeh, people have to find motivation in learning any language successfully. He explores the different types of motivations for learning English and they include integrative and instrumental. Some people have wanted to learn English based on its popularity for cultural enrichment and personal growth. Being able to speak English gives access to many cultures and opportunities on a global scale. Again, others focus on the functional reasons for learning the English language. This highlights the classification of English such as English for business, English for tourism, English for passing exams, among others. Either motivation continues to popularize and grow the English language globally.
Pillière, Linda, et al., eds. Standardising English: norms and margins in the history of the English language. Cambridge University Press, 2018.
According to the author, the inner gift is not really English but the ability to gain knowledge and the usage of a human language. However, he explores the English language development throughout time. Grammatical rules, vowels, consonants, and pronunciation are explored by the author. In the globalization of English, nonnative speakers have to have an understanding of the structure of the English language. Since colonization, many nations were colonized by the British and that meant the people learning English. Therefore, English trace its major popularity since colonial days. However, the language has evolved from dull and crude old English to modern simple exciting English. History is important in understanding the origin so as to appreciate the spread and global nature of English in my research.
