I want to thank everyone for thoroughly examining my opinions regarding collaboration and management. I am Veronica Sasati, and I will discuss some lessons I’ve picked up from working in multidisciplinary teams. Always remember that a lack of cooperation can lead to inefficient management of personnel and resources. The conclusion was drawn after a review of tactics that have been proven to boost the effectiveness of multicultural teams. Statistics have shown that couples that collaborate across disciplines produce better results.

Personal Experience

Healthcare providers are more likely to succeed in their missions when they work together in cohesive teams. Working in partnership with people, patients, carers and communities is an important and expected component of health-related research activity. Patient care can be enhanced through the sharing of expertise between disciplines through collaboration (Holmes et al., 2019). At my last nursing station, I encountered many difficulties due to the fact that I occasionally had to handle patient health records. Electronic health records (EHR) were developed due to the inefficiencies of paper medical records. Although the EHR rollout was essential for improving patient care, there were concerns that it could have been handled more carefully. Inadequate implementation led to a compromise in patient safety. Even though there were insufficient safeguards in place to protect patient medical records, the hospital recognized the gravity of the situation and moved quickly to address it by assembling a team of doctors, nurse managers, experts in information technology, and other staff members.

The implementation went well, but the hospital quickly discovered privacy violations. The hospital is being investigated for potentially violating HIPAA’s safeguarding information regulations in relation to a most recent occurrence involving a well-known spiritual leader. All organizations operating in the healthcare sector are required by law to adhere to strict restrictions aimed at preventing the unauthorized use or publication of patient health data (PHI). PHI is kept private by working with the privacy rule and the HIPAA security provision (Tovino, 2022). In order to address the current situation, the hospital board decided to call an urgent meeting. A specific team member purposefully altered the data and subsequently disclosed it for personal benefit. HIPAA consequently brought legal action against the institution.

Choosing the most appropriate way for dealing with and documenting the incident was my duty as the group’s head nurse. To find out more about it and other possible security flaws in EHRs, I called a meeting of our multidisciplinary team. According to the investigation’s findings, medical professionals handled patient data carelessly. I came up with strategies to improve teamwork and prevent similar incidents after learning that private information was left unattended in a public space, that medical records were being shared with friends and coworkers, and also that the computer system itself had not been adequately secured. The administration could find it beneficial to set up both official and informal meetings to get feedback from staff members on possible improvements. There ought to be a security system installed. Team members need to be at ease with one another in order to freely share ideas and information. In order to carry out an investigation, perform an analysis, and reach a consensus regarding the patient’s status, all team members must work from a common starting place.

Poor Collaboration Effects on Financial and Human Resource Management

When healthcare providers from various disciplines collaborate well, patients get better results. Collaborating across disciplines is crucial for providing patients with the best care possible (Wei et al., 2020). Employees can apply, combine, and manipulate foreign intelligence to achieve objectives and unearth data. When professionals from diverse fields collaborate well, patient satisfaction, staff engagement, and general workplace satisfaction all rise. Medical teams need to leverage the skills and perspectives of each member to get the best possible outcomes. Nonetheless, data suggests that interdisciplinary collaboration negatively impacts the provision of healthcare and the treatment of individual patients.

The effectiveness of a healthcare system has a direct impact on the quality of care provided to a patient. Ineffective teamwork and communication at work have been connected to lower productivity, medical mishaps, dissatisfaction, an absence of resources, and insufficiency. It raises the possibility of underutilized staff and material waste. Employees who struggle with cooperation could be afraid of facing consequences if they confess to being at fault. Problem-solving and discussion processes are greatly influenced by the management-employee relationship. Constant disagreements among medical professionals have been linked to recurrent issues and delays in inpatient care. We must make better use of our combined skills and talents if we hope to raise the bar for interdisciplinary collaboration. Medical errors are often the primary cause of patient deaths, and new information is frequently discovered as a result of these errors. Poor project management is primarily caused by ineffective teamwork.Collaborative workers are better at multitasking, come up with more original solutions, and complete projects on time. Making the most of the resources that are already available can lower implementation costs (McKenzie et al., 2022).

On the other hand, when a team exhibits a poor dynamic, the costs of compensating for services rendered after the deadline increase. Because of a lack of cooperation and increased error rates, healthcare administrators have to spend more money correcting errors (Milward & Provan,2023). The healthcare industry needs to adapt fast to the concepts of authoritative leadership, open communication, and teamwork in order to improve staff productivity and well-being as well as patient care.

Improving the Performance of an interdisciplinary Team under the Guidance of Its Managers

The working environment and company culture are significantly influenced by the leadership of the organization. Transformative leadership styles utilize emotional intelligence to motivate team members in a project and create a psychologically safe environment which encourages better performances during project implementation. Leadership is important for inspiration, guidance, and defining the objectives of every project (Renzi, 2020) . Those with the ability to influence others to change their opinions are considered transformational leaders. Leaders are distinguished by their capacity to inspire others through leading by example, providing context, and organizing the masses. They encourage everyone to put in their best effort and give employees a voice in organizational decisions. Transformational leadership and emotional intelligence are essential for the implementation of healthcare reform (Renzi, 2020). They are aware that success requires cooperation from all parties. An organization with a transformative leader boosts productivity and employee morale, which benefits the company. Transformative leaders are vital to any organization because they inspire new ideas and bring people together to tackle present and future challenges.

Transformational leaders foster a sense of trust and confidence within the workforce by creating support networks. The group is inspired to greater heights by their dedication to leading by example in a multidisciplinary team. Each team member will experience a sense of worth and joy in their contribution to the project’s eventual success. According to Renzi (2020), transformational leadership confers an additional benefit whereby all members of the group bear responsibility for the success or lack the same. They maintain constant communication within the interprofessional team in order to monitor advancement, identify issues, and make the most of resources. Achieving shared objectives is usually the main focus of effective leadership techniques.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration Techniques that Enhance Team Outcomes and Performance.

Only through collaboration will patients and their many healthcare providers receive the best results. Employees at all levels work together to exchange knowledge and skills. The ability for members of a group to communicate openly and honestly with one another is essential to the group’s success and ability to work together. The ability of a team to communicate honestly and openly regarding how things are progressing and how they can more effectively manage their efforts to improve the team’s performance is essential to the success of the team (Renzi, 2020). Setting realistic, mutually beneficial goals is the cornerstone for any successful interprofessional collaboration. It guarantees that everyone is in agreement and prevents time and energy from being wasted on competing for scarce resources. We have a solid system of communication that we have developed together. Keeping lines of communication open with patients and their families is essential to collecting the data required to enhance medical care. As coworkers, employees grow to respect and admire one another. Motivated individuals collaborate to accomplish the goals of the group. When people are given authority over their areas of expertise, they develop into more capable leaders. Team members can collaborate more successfully when they can easily exchange information with one another. The greatest patient care is provided by interdisciplinary teams, which are composed of experts from several fields. In an organizational structure, a group of people collaborate to determine an individual’s eligibility for a particular position (Belbin & Brown, 2022). The group will see the results of their labor and be acknowledged for their excellent coordination.

Conclusion

As a nurse who has worked in environments that have tested interdisciplinary collaboration, I can attest to the consequences of poor care coordination. The successful oversight of human resources and finances depends on the ability and cohesion of interdisciplinary teams. Consequently, it is clear that effective healthcare demands a synthesis of various viewpoints as well as competent leadership.
