Police-Community Partnerships

Abstract

Police officers collaborate with community partners to define policies and solutions to various criminality behaviors. Police officers should maintain order and pursue justice to enjoy peace in society. Nevertheless, police agencies encounter challenges while attempting to maintain a delicate balance of aggressive policing in a community offering violence and rebellion against the rule of law. In that regard, the fundamental responsibility remains to provide law and order to the community. Therefore, the paper describes strategies for impacting officers to develop morale and pursue effective performance on individual citizens, minority groups, and the majority based on aggressive and proactive policing.

Police-Community Partnerships

Strong relations characterized by mutual trust between police agencies and the communities they serve to play significant roles in maintaining public safety and enforcing effective policing. Law enforcement officers rely on cooperating community members to report issues regarding crime in their neighborhoods. In response, community partners define policies and solutions to various criminality behaviors. Police officers should maintain order and pursue justice to enjoy peace in society. Protecting community members involves using proactive policing to combat crime and criminality behaviors. Community members must show a willingness to trust the police. On the other hand, police actions should represent community values while adhering to principles of the rule of law and procedures that deliver justice and legitimacy without conflicting interests. In that regard, our department will adhere to specific missions, visions, goals, values, and principles to address traditional stereotypes of aggressive policing.

Addressing Resisting Communities

The department officers shall enhance the quality of life in areas associated with resting communities. The police officers will coordinate with community policing stakeholders, including village authorities, religious leaders, and group organizers. The model of addressing aggressive communities will integrate proactive policing strategies. However, police officers will enforce the law with impartiality and courtesy and, at the same time, foster safety and security.

The department police are expected to guarantee high-quality community life by protecting life and properties from rioting and demonstrating groups. According to our code of ethics, our concise priority is protecting citizens and properties (National Academies Press, 2022). Therefore, to succeed in providing public peace, order, and tranquility, police officers have a license to shoot as peace officers. The fundamental responsibility is to provide law and order to the community and individual citizens. In that regard, preventing and de-escalating potentially dangerous situations may involve shooting to bring order and peace from uncontrollable disorders and chaos. Therefore, to prevent crime and fatalities, Darrin Wilson shooting may prevail. Killing life-threatening criminals and eliminating potential mass killers from the community is an ethical practice that police should practice to bring order to uncontrollable riots. Exposing the public to threats, severe harm, and fatalities implies that police failed to accomplish their roles and responsibilities.

Proactive Policing Strategies

Dealing with social unrest in the community shall involve proactive policing techniques. According to National Academies Press (2022), proactive policing is a strategic approach that requires police agencies to prevent crimes. The criteria will provide effective practices in addressing rising crime rates and growing aspects of skepticism. The main goals will involve preventing crimes and disorders among reacting community members. Officers must include proactive elements such as mobilizing enough resources under police initiative operations. The department will deploy security resources to establish boundaries within neighborhoods that drive crime and disorders. The main ways of accomplishing order and justice in resisting communities will involve identifying crime hot spot areas. Officers will implement a focused strategy characterized by scanning and analyzing crime problems, identifying solutions, and assessing their effectiveness. Offices will identify known resisting individuals and offer appropriate attention to such individuals. Then the responding field officers will engage the community or define new strategies for police to interact with citizens.

Police Partnership with Minority

The police officers will provide the community with a safe place for living and working with people from different races, religions, ethnic groups, and colors. The .law enforcement officer must have a fundamental duty in serving humankind. The duty to serve all people without discrimination must prevail in minority and majority communities. Our department officers should go the extra mile to protect innocent people against deception. Neutrality should prevail in exercising public roles and duties by protecting the weak from oppression and intimidation. Peaceful individuals should receive fair and just services against .violence and disorders. The constraints of equality must prevail based on the constitutional rights of all people regardless of race, color, or originality. The department’s principles require officers to adhere to liberty, equality, and justice. The department officer staff should understand that racial profiling, unfair arrests, and brutal killings lead to mistrust of police (National Academies Press, 2022). The department has captured racial disparities from laws that violate fairness and justice, such as drug-related controversies, cocaine violations, and powder cocaine.

The department acknowledges histories and stereotypes associated with racial minorities. The department must avoid subjecting minorities to injustice by oppressing marginalized communities. Friendly relationships should prevail between African-Americans that have ever encountered mistreatment and marginalization at the hands of police. Notably, many people have flesh memories of the Ferguson shooting era. Therefore, our department should not institutionalize racial discrimination policies.

Boosting Morale and Proactive Policing

The department has formulated a health, safety, and wellness policy to guarantee officer job satisfaction. The appraisal team will coordinate with the disciplinary unit to ensure officers receive rewards and credit remarks in public and discipline in private. The department is expanding police welfare benefits to include family insurance coverage. Health benefits include regular checkups for stress, pressure, anxiety, and mental breakdown. The strategy aims at ensuring that police deliver quality services without unnecessary conflicts. Officers will receive training to keep a private life to avoid public insecurity. The department has enforced safety measures of withdrawing its officers in the event of danger, scorn, or ridicule from overpowering circumstances, events, or disasters. Individuals are encouraged to observe self-restraining in the event of disasters and observe complete care for the welfare of others.

Extending Community Partnership

The strategies enforced to ensure community partnership include introducing the value of activities that align with departmental objectives and the community’s wellness. The desirable activities include offering help on accident sites, clearing traffic, and giving first aid to victims. Our services to the community will include assisting crime victims with security needs and advice on case procedures (Cheurprakobkit, 2017). The department will collaborate with the community by providing emergency medical services. The department will help in restoring peace by intervening in solving domestic and neighborhood issues. For instance, the department police officers will offer solutions to family violence, property owner versus tenant disputes, and issues arising from racial harassment. Police will engage the community by working with residents and local business people to improve neighborhood conditions (Cheurprakobkit, 2017). Another essential community service includes helping the community address automobile and pedestrian traffic issues to ensure effective movements and safe driving along roads.

The department intends to collaborate with society to provide emergency utilities and social services and guarantee referrals to individuals facing various risks. The operations handled include providing utilities to the mentally ill, adolescent runways, intoxicated, and homeless people. The department will ensure that public members enjoy rights and freedom as the constitution provides (Cheurprakobkit, 2017). The activities embraced include ensuring people enjoy the right to expression and lawful and peaceful demonstrations without disruption. The department will promote a model of citizenship through open discussions, seminars, and education on honesty, fairness, respecting others, and helpful operations.

Values and Desires of Police

The values that guide officers and department operations include honesty in actions and thoughts. The department expects officers to obey laws at personal and official levels based on regulations imposed by the department. Officers should maintain operational techniques and strategies private and confidential. Matters demanding privacy and confidentiality should remain official to ensure department integrity and coordination. The officials should reveal private and confidential information if appropriate in case the information would help in performing official duties.

Secondly, decision-making should correspond to department principles of utmost good faith. In that regard, emotions and personal feelings should not influence change in the initial mission, goals, or objectives. The department expects the office to hold values and departmental integrity responsibly. Prejudice, friendships, or hatred should not alter the intended outcomes of the operation.

Police officers should never compromise crime and should prosecute criminals per the law and regulations enforced by the department. The operations should adhere to courtesy and appropriate legal directives without fear of favor. Service to the public should proceed without malice or ill will. Officers should avoid and at no point intended to use unnecessary force, violence, or intimidation to achieve personal interests against the rule of law. Police officers should cease bribery practices and should never accept gratuities to compromise justice.

The oath of office and job budges are symbols of public faith and should reflect public trust and commitment to services for all. The department expects officers to adhere to the ethics of police services. According to Blair, Grossman, and Wilke (2021), police officers should always strive to achieve department objectives and seal all deals. The character and career behaviors should align with a dedication to following professional laws and enforcement.

Values expected by Society

There are general expectations from the community. First, society expects positive relationships with the police. Public members perceive that it’s their right to react to or influence crime or disorders without police officers. The democratic perceptions argue that the police should serve society as an arm of government. The community perceives those police departments should embrace values that guarantee accountability practices on matters involving public elicitation, approval, and consent.

Consequently, members of the public encounter conflicting interests due to contradicting values. The conflict between police and community arises from policing strategies on values such as fearing crime, perceptions towards collective efficacy, and community under evaluating police legitimacy (Blair, Grossman & Wilke 2021). For instance, police-based values focus on place-based, personal-focused, and problem-based solution interventions. However, the values contradict society’s strategies that focus on community-oriented strategies. Therefore, failure to engage community representatives makes the public doubt police legitimacy and cooperation. Moreover, conflicts arise while each section attempts to defend its values. Community-oriented crime values seek to reduce fears, increase trust with police, and gain confidentiality with law implementers.
