Introduction
My choice of pharmacy is mainly motivated by personal experiences, for example, my role of caregiving to my paternal grandfather during a stroke episode. When I realized the symptoms in the first place, the importance of taking medicine regularly was instilled in me. Engaging in the care of my friend furthered my comprehension of drugs and health effects of the medicine. Close contact with clients made me realize that a pharmacist plays a significant role in patient care. It sparked a passion for healthcare and medicine, propelling my journey to become a pharmacist to improve patient and community lives through empathy and medication management.
I decided to attend the pharmacy program because I have already had a big experience as a responder to health issues. For instance, I once cleared an emergency at a neighbor’s birthday party. The patient’s symptoms of flu, I demanded a complete medical examination, and this ultimately led to the discovery of the possible organ failure. This incident served as a reminder that medical care needs to be prompt and accurate toto be effective, which motivated my passion for healthcare and made me choose pharmacy as a career.
Volunteer and Professional Experiences Influencing Career Choice: My volunteering experiences, especially at Joe Dimaggio Children’s Hospital (Janser, 2022) which I spent my time supporting pediatric patients, immeasurably shaped my career direction. My experience of seeing the difference my work made to the condition of patients was a very powerful stimulus to further involvement. At Memorial Hospital for Senior Citizens, my determination to pursue healthcare was also strengthened. Interacting with elderly patients and witnessing their challenges solidified my dedication to making a difference in healthcare. These experiences reinforced my passion for patient care and inspired me to pursue a career in pharmacy where I can continue to positively impact individuals’ lives.
The lab assistant role that I have played at Nova Southeastern University involved experimenting, analyzing data, and learning about pharmaceutical principles, which helped increase my scientific knowledge essential for pharmacy practice. However, the opportunity to shadow at Publix Pharmacy was a chance to do tasks related to pharmacy such as reception., data entry, the pre-verification, dispensing and verification. I was able to polish my practical skills and realized how important different roles are to a pharmacist in providing quality care to patients.
Educational and Career Goals : My professional objectives are to find a clinical pharmacy job and therefore, able to practice and develop my patient-care as well as medication-management skills. Additionally, I would like to take a closer look at those pharmacy sub-specialties such as pediatrics or geriatrics which are also aligned with my favorite areas and the aspiration to decrease healthcare complications across different population groups. Besides, I aspire to be a research-oriented pharmacist who would help gain knowledge and practice it in the pharmacological field and therefore improve patient care.
The first step in my professional journey is to get a clinical pharmacy job where I can practically use and improve all the skills I have gained in the pharmaceutical area particularly in patient care and medication management. Moreover, I am willing to devote myself to the field that aligns with my interest, either pediatrics or geriatrics, and continue providing care to various patients. Besides, I am also excited about doing research to increase my knowledge in pharmacology and create new standards of patient care(Currie, 2023), with which I can be a valuable part of the pharmacy community that would contribute to the better health of people and communities worldwide.
Skills and Community Contributions: My skills include strong problem-solving abilities, excellent time management, and diligent working habits. These are qualities that I have been developing throughout my leadership experience as I have led teams and facilitated collaboration within different organizations. As the president of these institutions, I have developed communication and teamwork skills, which are crucial for creating a positive working atmosphere. Besides, my capacity to adapt to obstacles and to prioritize tasks, has been of great importance in reaching organizational goals. . I desire to bring these skills to the table and contribute to the community through future projects that showcase my passion for healthcare and pharmacy. My vision is to participate in community service and professional organizations to improve the community’s health system and upgrade the pharmacy profession (Daly et al., 2020). Through advocacy, my commitment lies in campaigning for medication safety and patient care initiatives, enabling access to good healthcare and creating a community wellness and safety culture.
Conclusion
I have a wide-ranging background built on formative personal experiences from caregiving to professional exposure, and the Doctor of Pharmacy program will benefit from my distinct viewpoint and my zeal for healthcare. My dedication to enhancing patient care, built on my volunteer experience, professional roles, and leadership skills, inspires me to make a notable contribution to the pharmacy field. I look forward to deploying my talents and know-how to improve patient outcomes and contribute to the progress of pharmaceutical practices to make treatment more secure and effective.
