Describe the work you completed for this assignment.
For the project, I introduced a much more activity-based and creative system of class governance to my teaching mode. The foundation for creating functional and healthy learning environments is laid by implementing unconditional good behavior attitudes among students. This is why I reached the point where the practices were designed and implemented, which promoted the development of desired behaviors among the learners. Overall, my tasks covered several areas, such as research, joint work with peers, and implementing specific measures. In the beginning, I researched for 8 hours to look deeply into different approaches related to behavior management, as suggested in the course materials. After that, the most appropriate ones aligned with my observation have been distinguished. I worked with these tools: positive feedback, specific outcomes, and therapeutic approaches. Additionally, I jumped into the world of the referenced academic articles and educational resources to gain deep knowledge of the appropriate techniques for managing behavior.
To summarize the study, we started Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), which we attended with other teachers, where we shared alternative ways of managing behavior. This groupwork approach allowed me to see my thoughts and feelings, expressed not only by me but also by others, constantly enriching their value due to various concepts and techniques. 5-hour activity with the team only resulted in my competence changing pupils’ estrangement of poor habits. I went through the process of observing my students’ behavior and worked alongside them, developing some behavior management techniques that benefit my students. The intervention measures applied were keeping all rules crystal clear, ensuring they were followed and were there for positive reinforcement, and involving restorative practices applied to any conflict and issue of responsibility. “The implementation of these interventions – it took me more than 10 hours together.“ Throughout this time, I worked on many topics to make sure that there were well-planned interventions for the needs of every individual student and classroom-based interactions.
Which course concepts were integrated into your work?
Not only did this project implement the methodology of teacher management and class dynamics, but it also helped me write the story of my life. One of the main concepts of the ideas was for educators to be the ones who build a place that inspires students to grow and teachers who are equal to the success of the students. Using custom-made techniques, i.e., positive reward, clear communication, and collaborative problem-solving, which I have learned from the textbook, I tried to ensure that students behave how they are expected to behave. First, I have revised the curriculum, which now includes the concept of the restorative justice framework, used to manage conflict and behavioral problems positively and sympathetically. I dreamed of a class where I could care about the kids rather than teach and reprimand them, so I decided to influence the students’ behavior positively. We all became a family in which everybody cared for each other.
How did your work support student learning?
The work aimed to foster a beneficial learning ecosystem in which students are relaxed, blessed, and trusted to pursue their academic goals. Through the utilization of adequate behavior management tactics, I can establish a structure so that all pupils are enabled to get involved in the learning process. How the clarity of expectations, favorable rewards, and dealing with vital issues have students take the lead and escape academic failure is commendable—besides, allowing children to develop a way to manage behavior in a group setup created the platform for social and emotional skills, such for instance empathy, communication, and conflict resolution. The following are not the only skills needed for students to be successful in their studies, but they are certainly the most essential ones for them to acquire as people.
What did you learn from this experience?
Having this experience, I’ve thus gained insight into the difficulties of classroom teachers working with problematic students, and this has led me to a more proactive and collaborative approach. The realizations come when I see myself fitting in these connections; thus, making a difference in a student’s life is essential to creating a classroom atmosphere where students feel the appreciation and respect they deserve. Frequent reviews and the development of behavior management strategies are ideal for the students. Additionally, they need to adapt to classroom settings, which is vital. Efficient behavior management should be flexible, empathetic, supportive, and ready for changes, and strategies should be adjusted to ensure the students’ growth is continuous. Finally, my firm belief in the magic ability of teacher-student solid relationships to impart a flexible and individualized teaching style that meets all learners’ needs is fully confirmed by the mentioned experience.
