There is a high cost of health care in the United States, as already stated in the “problem definition.” A public poll done by Harris researchers already confirms this. The Harris researchers for the American Academy of Physician Assistants conducted the public poll. The survey was done between February 23 and March 9, 2023, and involved 2,519 adults aged 18 and above. The survey aimed to gather the issues that patients face within the healthcare system and their perspectives on healthcare in the United States (Harris Poll, 4). The poll reveals that most Americans think the present healthcare system is moving in the wrong direction. In particular, 54% of respondents agreed with that. Furthermore, the survey shows that 26% of respondents graded the system below the national level with either a D or F.
The report indicated that injustices and distrust remained in the healthcare system, with people of color significantly more likely to perceive a negative impact on the quality of the healthcare received. The study also found that care planners or caregivers face significant challenges in coordinating care with healthcare providers, developing treatment plans, communicating with caregivers, or calculating insurance premiums. These findings suggest that efforts to improve health care should address these issues and ensure that all individuals have access to high-quality health care.
The polling results shed some light on one opportunity; many consider Americans the current healthcare system a failure. Only 54% of respondents supported this view. As many as 26% of respondents assessed the system at a national level as below average, giving either a D or F grade (Harris Poll, 22). This indicates a high degree of unhappiness with the existing healthcare system, which can be used to gain widespread acceptance for the reform. In addition, surveys show that adults usually say that healthcare not costing much will improve their health. This indicates a broad agreement that high healthcare costs represent an urgent problem that must be addressed. They could, for example, use this to garner public support for efforts to reduce the cost of healthcare, including advocating for policies that make healthcare more affordable.
The polling results, though, also unveil challenges. The survey instance indicated different subgroups’ diverse opinions about health care. There were significant differences in the reports of negative impacts on the quality of healthcare received by people of color, underscoring the persisting problem of inequalities and disbelief in the healthcare system. This implies efforts designed to develop public support for the enhancing healthcare system shall have a view of the experiences and perspectives of various subgroups. These poll numbers offer some important lessons about how Americans perceive health care and offer some hope or challenge on how to win more public support for the health care issue. The efforts to change the system can become more effective people if they are ready for this change and if the opportunities are used and challenges are addressed.
