It gets data from websites, articles and books while the model helps it to make its language, thus responding to humans correctly. It uses a conversational approach, where humans ask questions, and it answers them. It was primarily made for online customer service but is used for diverse reasons. It is essential to understand what the tool can do, what it cannot, and how to maximize its benefits. It informs users about tasks they can allocate to the tool, thus benefiting from the new technology. The paper describes what ChatGPT can do, what it cannot and how best to use it effectively.
ChatGPT can do several tasks. It automates workflow by handling daily routines and activities. Most workplaces have repetitive work, such as planning meetings, responding to emails and reviewing social media comments. The tool does this job, eliminating the need for many employees. The tools also act as coding assistants in JavaScript and Python (Kanade) programming languages. The programmers rely on it, especially when dealing with complex codes requiring much knowledge. It also provides linear regression visualizations, makes complex codes and manages them from scratch. By using the tool, the programmers complete work earlier and maximize accuracy. Also, the tool is an advanced search engine. It provides contextual and required answers to most of the questions. It is better than the usual search engine, which mainly provides links, because it gives more information and aligns with the users’ queries. However, it only provides data up to 2021 because it is a new technology. The developers have integrated Microsoft’s Bing to increase data variety, enabling it to give accurate results. Therefore, ChatGPT is reliable in automating workflows; it is a coding assistant and an advanced search engine.
ChatGPT is also used to create content. It generates ideas, brainstorms and provides guidelines. A user would want to summarize the recent research to solve a problem. The tool collects all the information, analyzes and provides recommendations (Kanade). It is also valuable for creating online content. For example, a person or company would use it to understand target markets’ needs, the kind of YouTube videos they want and how to attract people. It also creates social media content depending on the audience’s wants, preferences and behaviors. Besides, it recreates the available data to ensure that it becomes popular. Artists can also use the tool to create stories, songs and movie scripts. The users provide the selected genre, topics and characters, and the tool organizes and provides the final product. Moreover, the tool makes professional documents like cover letters and resumes. The job-seeking process is tedious, as the cover letter is adjusted to align with the organizational requirements. ChatGPT aligns and also provides career advice. It is also helpful in executing small tasks such as planning a birthday, travelling and solving personal problems. Thus, ChatGPT is a reliable tool for creating all kinds of content.
Moreover, there are tasks that the technology tool cannot perform. It cannot detect errors when making content and coding. A CNBC editor asked the tool to write “the Ballard of Dwight fry” song lyrics, which were incorrect. Other users have learned that the tool might not know everything and can give the wrong answers. The inability to detect mistakes before submitting the answers means people and workplaces can only partially rely on the tool. The tool cannot consistently deliver accurate results as its data is limited. It has data up to 2021, meaning it does not consider events that occurred afterwards. The lack of up-to-date data could affect a business, especially daily activities. For example, when planning for meetings, the tool might not consider recent sessions and may give the wrong directives. ChatGPT cannot verify legal or ethical issues involved in generating information. Notably, the tool is unaware that it can make copyrighted content and which violates privacy rights. When given sensitive data, it could be used to cause harm to users. Thus, it would cause significant damage, like in businesses involving sensitive information.
ChatGPT cannot produce answers that need critical thinking and personalized advice. When users give multi-tier questions, the tool does not understand, leading to misleading answers. It cannot also learn and adapt without human interaction. For example, when asked a question that needs thinking out of the box, wrong answers are delivered since it is programmed to seek responses from the given data. It shows that companies needing intuition and creativity cannot rely on the tool. When coding, the users must provide the proper context to access accurate answers. Also, the tool cannot give personalized solutions as it does not access all information needed to offer insights and empathy. Instead, it provides generalized information and opinions based on past data and situations. For example, if a business struggles to connect with customers, the ChatGPT would suggest effective communication rather than personalized data, such as asking the customers for feedback. Thus, it is unreliable in solving critical and complicated issues that need thinking out of the box and being particular.
When used right, ChatGPT would help individuals and businesses execute their tasks. Several guidelines should be followed to maximize the tool’s functions and limit the chances of errors and mistakes. The questions should be clear where all information is provided, and grammatical errors are prevented (Van Dis 225). Since it is trained to cover broad topics, being clear enables the model to respond right. The questions should also be specific. The tool does not understand the expected information when vague questions are asked. As a result, it provides irrelevant answers. Effective use of the tool also needs patience. When asked complicated questions, the response takes longer, as various sources are consulted. Patience allows it to collect data and give more accurate answers. This accuracy requires the use of natural language. Users ought to assume that they are speaking to another person. It increases understanding levels to give the expected answers. Using natural language means that simple and concise words are used.
Another way to maximize its effectiveness is to check its comprehension. For instance, the users could ask the tool whether it understands after asking the question. Its response tells whether the question is understood or it should be rephrased. Providing context is also required. Here, a brief background about the topic should be given, allowing the tool to give relevant answers. When asking how to improve workplace motivation, the users should define the term and analyze the benefits. It gives the model a sense of direction, thus giving enough accurate information. Users should also provide feedback. When the responses are incorrect, users should inform the tool. The feedback enables it to improve in the future as it learns.
Even though technology is introduced to ease life, it should be overused. Before seeking answers from it, personal research and facts checking should be done (Lund and Wang). Responsible usage prevents laziness and makes it easy to detect errors in content creation. When no personal research is done, one would believe all the responses provided, yet others might be wrong as the tool lacks critical thinking skills. Users should be respectful, especially when correcting the model, and end the conversation after they are helped. Words such as “bye” and “thank you” should be used to inform the tool that all that was needed is attained.
In summation, ChatGPT is a reliable new technology. It performs tasks such as creating content, coding and executing daily tasks and is an advanced search engine. However, it cannot detect errors in content and coding, has limited data access, cannot identify ethical and legal mistakes and lacks critical thinking skills. To effectively use it, users must be simple, direct, concise and respectful.
