Introduction
There has been a significant transformation related to modern technology in education in the modern era. Artificial intelligence (AI) uses machines and applications as opposed to the use of natural intelligence demonstrated by humans. Artificial intelligence in education has been a significant development meant to aid learning to be more efficient and steadfast when combined with high-quality educational materials and tutoring. AI systems help examine and track students learning processes and behavior, alerting the teachers on issues they cannot identify through their natural eyes. Also, the use of gamification in education in the modern era has been on the rise. This educational approach seeks to motivate the student by using video game designs and game features in learning environments. The main objective of gamification is to exploit enjoyment and engagement by encapsulating learners’ interests and motivating them to continue learning.
Artificial intelligence and gamification in education
The topic of gamification in learning has attracted attention from various scholars to examine the effectiveness of gamification in the classroom set up . According to Kim et al. 2018, education is effective for learners when they learn and have fun. The gamification in learning gives learners the best opportunity to have objectives, aims, and goals to attain for in a way that the learner feels as fun. Further, they claimed that gamification has addictive video games that fascinate the learners and get them hooked, which improves the learning process. Thus, gamification and game-based features are applied to learning materials (Kim et al., 2018). The use of gamification makes the learning process to be fun and interactive. Gamification is significant for any audience and subject matter when used effectively depending on the users’ needs; the use of gamification of learning can help the teachers can help to establish stimulating, learning, and enjoyable content. It turns the learning process into a game, which triggers human engagement in the learning process. Gamification tends to drive to complete, improve and outdo others and even individual learners. The reward of using gamification in the classroom can be fulfilling and inspiring. One of the significant advantages of gamification is that it makes the learning process more educational and thrilling. Role-playing and competitive features add an immersive angle, which makes the learning process fun.
According to Sailer & Homer, 2020, gamification allows students to view the real-life application of their knowledge. Through gamification, the leaders can effectively strengthen their abilities by relating them to real situations. They further claimed that gamification in education allows the students to see the real-life use and advantages of the topic. Also, the learners can get a firsthand view of how their selections within the game outcome in rewards or punishment. Gamification improves the learning experience among the learners (Sailer & Homner, 2020). Gamification tends to more engagement among the learners, which improves the learning process by allowing students to engage with the subject effectively, especially in more unofficial learning environments. The learners get more excited, enhancing the retains of the information learned. The use of gamification provides a platform for competition and corporation among the learners making the learning process more effective.
Similarly, gamification offers real-time feedback. Also, gamification provides a platform where learners can be regularly examined based on their self-reviews. Gamification in learning allows the learners to work towards actual, quantifiable, achievable goals and get high-level response to achieve the goals (Zainuddin et al., 2020). Gamification makes the learning process addictive; gamification allows the learners to learn new things, which makes them experience exciting experiences that lead to the release of dopamine’s, making it easy to retain the new information learned.
On the other hand, various scholars have examined the use of artificial intelligence in the learning process. The use of AI in education helps magnify the student’s assessment and other application to back learners education often used to develop furtiveness tests that learners do not even distinguish as tests. Also, according to Cope et al., 2021, the use of machine-centered is majorly extensive in education, where artificial intelligence is used in processing to score essays using natural languages (Lavoué et al., 2018). Artificial intelligence has allowed massive use on online courses, allowing learners to access educational services away from physical classes by allowing limitless involvement through the web. The web is run by various educational facilities that have incorporated with AI scoring to examine their theses and tasks within their fields.
Artificial intelligence helps to achieve the learners-based targets as the artificial intelligence solution adapts the educational level of students of learning speed and their academic targets. Thus, artificial intelligence helps the teachers determine the suitable courses for their requirements as the AI applications help determine the strengths and weaknesses of a learner. According to Luckin & Cukurova, 2019, the use of AI in education has helped in tutoring, helping the students to get help from outside the classrooms; in most cases, it can be used in test preparation and homework. Through the use of AI chatbots and tutors, students can get aid in a distinct way of learning outside the classroom and help the students to improve their weak areas.
Finally, artificial intelligence in learning helps get a quick response in education. Students need assistance to resolve their inquiries and need help from experts in specific fields in the education process. The AI systems help students get answers within a short period, making learning universal and accessible full time (Ahmed & Wahed, 2020). With the aid of the AI systems, students can learn from anywhere and anytime, which allows the students to get access to quality education without any cost of traveling.
Conclusion
Artificial intelligence and gamification in education in the modern era have provided a platform for easy access to educational materials, straightforward assessment of learners, and motivating the learning process. Also, the use of the two techniques in education has made learners equipped with practical skills since they can access information at ease and offers a platform for regular assessment of the learners. Artificial intelligence and gamification should be used effectively depending on the learner’s age to be effective and by the learner’s educational needs.
