Professional Goals for Advanced Nursing Role

Literature Review

My research methodology is quite extensive as I searched databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, and Google Scholar for their availability of information and accurate information. Through the use of search keywords such as “family nurse practitioner,” “advanced nursing practice,” “Tennessee,” “healthcare policy,” and “scope of practice,” I employed a strategy that aimed at catching all potentially relevant details. My inclusion criteria reflect on choosing articles adapted within 05 years before the study went on, written in English, and, more precisely, addressed the social, political, and legal sides of FNP practice in Tennessee. On the other hand, I was selecting articles using exclusion criteria that were not aimed at my research goals or lacked empirical supporting data. On top of that, I limited the inquiry to research published between the years 2017 and 2022 so that I got the latest and appropriate research in my analysis that tells about extensions of FNP duties and enhancement strategies, respectively, in the subject context.

The foundation of being an FNP encompasses all the learning acquired throughout the learning unit and setting or drafting personal or professional aims concerning the future. This paper evaluates how nursing practice is advanced within societal climate, political background, and legal framework, particularly in Tennessee. Moreover, this essay will also focus on practical strategies for expanding the FNP role and improving the performance of the FNP specialty area.

The semester taught me many things as I internally digested assigned readings, participated actively in discussion board meetings, and engaged in various online courses. It has helped me understand more about the complex roles in advanced nursing practice. The units that dealt with healthcare services, policy and ethics, and advanced clinical management strategies have given me a more profound and vivid understanding of the complexity inherent in the modern healthcare delivery system. Also, interacting with coursemates through diverse discussions and group tasks has played an essential role in the dynamization of the ideas I already had and was the push I needed to endeavor to confront my past wrongs.

Personal Future Goals as an APRN

When my road to a career as a Family Nurse Practitioner starts, it is not my ultimate goal to be just another FNP or get a particular position. My career goals are positioned through a deepened passion for healthcare delivery, focusing on all-inclusive, compassionate, and evidence-based care for individuals and families that span the life cycle. It is not a professional requirement but a motive with which I am emotionally and personally connected: a calling to do good and better the lives of those handed over to my care. The role that I would perform as an FNP will be focused on bringing up the broad-based care that covers health’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects as recommended by research (Dantas et al., 2023). For healing, we need an all-encompassing treatment of symptoms and diseases; it has to be based on the idea that a person is a whole being, energized by his unique values, ideas, and experiences. As a result, I want to obtain a training program that focuses on health preservation and disease prevention and subsequently assist patients in participating actively in their health and wellness. I aim to educate, motivate, and counsel the public, who will take it upon themselves to improve their health and condition. By doing health screening, assessment, and giving advice, the members of the public will be empowered to achieve their optimum level of good health.

My main commitments are health maintenance, detection, and treatment of common illnesses, complex chronic instance management, and another scope of care and safety with the absolute highest efficiency and quality levels tailored to patient’s individual needs. Besides striving to bring the best therapeutic results, I am also engaged in developing collaborative bonds with the patients, the families of those patients, and the interdisciplinary healthcare groups. To achieve the best patient outcomes, one of the main challenges is to develop good communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making between doctors and patients (Stellflug et al., 2022). I will establish relationships based on trust and mutual respect in communication with patients and their families. I recognize the significance of working with various healthcare professionals, like physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health personnel. I pledge to cooperate and work together harmoniously in interdisciplinary groups, respect and acknowledge individual backgrounds, and use what the group unanimously possesses to promote good quality and coordinated care. I know how fast the healthcare industry is growing and evolving; hence, I fully support continuous medical training and experience upgrading to keep abreast of the latest trends and the rapid changes occurring in the healthcare sector today. Also, I will attend conferences and workshops where I interact with other FNPs, increasing my experience.

Analyzing the Scope of Advanced Nursing Practice in Tennessee

The social climate, political views, and law are the factors that have a solid binding effect on the practice of FNP in Tennessee. Regarding the social environment, lack of adequate access to healthcare facilities, especially in remote areas, is one of the challenges when it comes to quality service delivery and, at the same time, equity. Aside from that, cultural variety existing within the state necessitates cultural competence and sensitivity while serving as care providers to patients. Tennessee has many political disputes regarding health care reform, Medicaid expansion, and scope of practice regulation for advanced practice nurses. These political dynamics can have consequences for the independence of the FNPs or the practice environment, directly related to the type of services accessible to the patient. In addition, similar to other states, state laws and regulations must be considered when carrying out prescriptive authority and collaborative practice agreements, which are integral to the role of FNPs in Tennessee (Boehning & Haddad, 2023). Thus, I intend to actively engage in advocacy endeavors to champion healthcare parity and availability to prevent pitfalls caused by the social landscape, the political community, and the law. It could be through involvement in policy dialogues, voting for and implementing their favored initiatives regarding Medicaid extension, and the partnership of community agencies and nongovernmental groups in addressing healthcare inequalities. Besides, I will be up-to-date with legislative changes, and I shall support policies that make the practice functions of FNPs up to the level of their educational training unrestricted.

Continued Development of the Future APRN Role

To progress as a champion and practitioner of the coursework, I will take a proactive and active role in pursuing the highest education and professional growth. With this in mind, I plan on acquiring certificates in cardiology or pediatrics to enhance my areas of interest and explore the possibility of offering more services, such as first aid training to children. Furthermore, I seek to partake in additional education activities, e.g., conferences, workshops, and online courses, to ensure that I am updated in the area of evidence-based practice and also new technologies used in health care (Dantas et al., 2023). Having interdisciplinary collaboration and receiving mentorship will be my top priorities in achieving the FNP role and competencies. Given the interpersonal dynamics of this environment, I anticipate improved clinical skills, effective communication, and excellent leadership skills. In addition, frequent meetings will be held with the senior FNPs during the year to ensure that I have professional guidance, get the necessary feedback, and am supported as I battle with the complexities of advanced nursing practice.

Exploring Professional Development Opportunities

Professionally, I am interested in and committed to the nursing community’s potential and ambition to find myself in the memorial opportunities that will propel my skills and contribute to the healthcare delivery system and education. Being aware of the healthcare industry’s diversity and the changing needs of patients and society at large, I am interested in attending advanced degree programs like Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) that will equip me with the complete theoretical knowledge and practical skills that would prepare me to accept strategic selection roles such as hospital administration, education, and policy (Mlambo et al., 2021). I hold a vision to leverage these latest educational pathways to the effect that, over time, I will be as knowledgeable as possible over the matter and the trends in healthcare systems, organizational culture, and policies and will be able to introduce positive changes and improve the healthcare system. Through the sharing of my clinical expertise and know-how with those students who take me on as their preceptor and with those newly-hires who see me as a role model, I aim at not only giving them technical and clinical competencies but also creating an environment where they grow as compassionate, critical thinking, and lifelong-learner nurses. I commit myself to making a mark and leaving behind a lasting legacy of superb skills, honesty, and loyalty to the nursing career, creating a path for other nurses and healthcare professionals to follow as they take their leadership positions, creative roles, and advocacy positions for positive change within the healthcare field.

In conclusion, the development of professional goals as a family nurse practitioner is addressed comprehensively, which include healthcare competence, advocacy, and lifelong learning. Through comprehending the social climate, political context, and the law that governs advanced nursing practice in Tennessee, FNPs effectively deal with the barriers and, through the implementation of strategies, can make a quality difference that is desired to be achieved in the health care outcomes of individuals and families. Ongoing professional development and a determination toward remaining subject to lifelong learning may turn FNPs into trusted care providers whose services are comprehensive, patient-centered, and delivered in varied healthcare settings.
