Technological advancements have led to numerous changes and wide applications in diverse fields. Its disruptive nature has been evident in educational sectors despite there being concerns about how it will impact the school system in the future. Traditional approaches of the school system have underlying limitations that require intervention which incorporation of technology will be effective. However, there are positive and negative impacts of technology in the educational system, with the teachers and learners playing a major role in its application and implication in the teaching-learning process. Stakeholders involved in the educational system are putting effort into sensitizing the impacts of technology incorporation in the educational system and how it can lead to maximum benefits. Technological advancement has led to revolutionary benefits in different fields. Its incorporation into the school system will have numerous benefits, including improving the educational system, improving the learning process, and exposing students to a wide knowledge base.
Technology has many benefits in the education system, like providing a variety of learning materials available on the Internet. The development of mobile devices, computers, and the Internet has led to wider and faster access to information (Laronde et al., 2017). Students and teachers benefit from easy and faster access to information available on the Internet, making it easier to learn new concepts. The increased access of students to mobile devices in and out of classes improves the learning process since it allows students-centered learning. Students can learn on their terms and access information to supplement their classroom teaching and textbook notes. Teachers could also get supplemental information available on the Internet, improving their knowledge base and improving their teaching technique.
Moreover, it is easier for students to file organizations through Google Docs and other applications, saving much time and improving the storage process (p. 31). Students have been losing their files due to naming and organization issues that have led to teachers’ intervention to manage the issues. There is also diversified learning through technology since students can learn through online classes and at their convenience. The Internet offers a global connection, which makes it easier for students to connect with a variety of instructors and other students, hence improving cultural diversity and interactions (Team Varthana, 2023). Schools use diversified teaching-learning approaches, which they could share through online platforms and adopt the best approach. Students and teachers can easily access a wide range of information and link with other students and teachers, sharing their knowledge and information. Technology incorporation in the educational system will offer a variety of learning materials, which is one of the major reasons why it should be incorporated in the education system.
Additionally, technology has also eased teaching methods through online tutors, sharing classes, and making learning more interesting. Distance and online learning have become part of the educational revolutions enhanced by the adoption of technology (Sadeghi, 2019). Wide access to technological devices has made it easier for students to learn through online classes regardless of distance, which eliminates the challenge of traditional teaching approaches. Mobile devices like phones, tablets, and computers have been incorporated into classroom teaching, making it easier for teachers to guide students. Moreover, access to online tutors improves student’s flexibility in choosing a learning schedule that works for them. Learning has become convenient as it saves time and cuts costs since students can access even classes offered in international schools.
Moreover, technology makes learning more interesting through the use of chatbots, which offer educational tools in a more pleasant and modern style (Georgescu, 2018). Technology provides customized teaching and learning tools that students could tailor to meet their interests and convenience for the learning process. Many schools have incorporated smartphones in classroom teaching, improving the concentration of learners through the use of creative interfaces. Smartphone applications in the classroom work as a learning aid, providing students with convenience and comprehensive learning materials that aid in their research and classwork (Ansari et al., 2017). Teachers and lecturers incorporate the use of smartphones in classroom teaching to create attractive teaching and maximum interaction with students, minimizing distractions. The incorporation of technology in the education system eases teaching methods, improving the educational sector through online tutors, allowing students to share their classes, and making learning more interesting.
Additionally, technology has numerous benefits for learners in their learning process and improves their social skills. Numerous research literature on technology has indicated that virtual technologies are linked with making students more committed and motivated to learning (Martín-Gutiérrez et al., 2017). Virtual technologies make it easier for students to access virtual environments representing the real world, which they would not have accessed through traditional approaches. Moreover, it allows students to learn new skills and knowledge by working in a virtual environment, which imitates real-life settings and allows students to learn skills under the guidance of their teachers and tutors. Moreover, the students also improve their communication skills since they interact with other students virtually, allowing them to learn interaction skills. Communicating over the Internet requires online skills, which contribute to social and basic skills that cannot be learned in the classroom. Students get a variety of benefits to students since it allows a constructivist approach to learning and allows interactive learning materials, increasing students’ motivation and engagement (Martín-Gutiérrez et al.,479). Teachers have to include different approaches in the classroom to increase their student’s engagement, which has been enhanced by technology. Incorporating technology into the education system has numerous benefits for students in improving their knowledge and skills, accessing virtual environments, and improving their mental well-being.
However, despite the advantages technology has in the education sector, some limitations question its effectiveness. The major limitations associated with the incorporation of technology in the education sector are distraction and the need for more attention. Research has indicated that the use of mobile devices in the teaching-learning process is the leading cause of distraction among students (Laronde et al., 2017). Some of the public schools raised their concerns about students needing to remember their passwords and getting distracted during the learning process. Data privacy has been a major concern in the school system, and students losing their passwords increases its vulnerability. However, some of the internet sources provide false information, so it might be challenging for students to choose credible and reliable sources. Teachers have the responsibility to guide their students in the proper use of technological devices, which poses a challenge. Mobile devices have games, social media apps, and entertainment, which distracts students from the main focus of having technological devices as learning aids (Sadeghi., 2019).
Moreover, the technology requires infrastructure and competent teachers to guide students to transition from traditional learning approaches and to choose reliable sources. There are also effects on students’ creativity. Easy and faster access to information through technological devices affects student’s creativity, making them dependent. Students learning on their own and interacting with others improve their creativity and their social skills, which are impacted by technology, which limits human interactions (Martín-Gutiérrez et al.,480). The incorporation of technology in the education sector leads to distraction and lack of attention from students, which negatively affects the teaching-learning process. There has also been a concern about the cost of implementing technology in the education system and whether teachers and students are capable of handling the changes. Teachers and students make a major contribution to how technology impacts the teaching-learning process to assess the effectiveness of fully adopting technology. However, technology has a major impact on education that needs to be fully accessed before making a decision on whether to include technology in the education sector.
In summary, there has been increased use and adoption of technology in the education sector due to its disruptive nature and numerous advantages. Technology incorporation in education has led to unprecedented benefits to the teaching-learning process. It has improved education systems and the learning process and exposed students to a wide knowledge base. Technological advancements offer platforms like social media and search engines that offer a variety of learning and teaching materials. Moreover, it also eases teaching methods through online tutors and sharing classes and makes learning more interesting, capturing the attention of students. Learners also benefit by accessing virtual platforms that they would only sometimes access in the actual classroom. Virtual classes imitate the real-life environment where they learn new skills and improve on classroom teachings. Technology has made the world a global village through the Internet, and it has also facilitated long-distance learning where students can access classes online, share their classes, and interact with other students globally. However, despite the advantages, there have also been some limitations that question its effectiveness in the education sector. The major challenge and concern are distractions and the need for more attention from students when they are incorporated into classroom teaching. However, challenges associated with the incorporation of technology in education sectors can be managed by having competent personnel and tailoring technology to meet what the teachers and students need. Technology should be incorporated into the education sector due to its revolutionary benefits and the need to tackle the challenges of traditional teaching methods. The incorporation of technology in the education system, especially chatbots, virtual reality, mobile devices, and the Internet, has led to unprecedented benefits in improving the educational system, improving the learning process, and exposing students to a wide knowledge base.
